Probably my top episode from this series. I cried so much I’m pretty sure I had no moisture left in my body. I don’t have much to add to your discussion, but I do like that Violet admitted to wanting to cry the entire time she was there but she put on a brave face for little Ann. It’s a small detail but I think it paints a larger picture for her overall emotional growth. On a personal note, I actually knew someone in high school whose mother did something similar for her. Her mom had terminal cancer and wrote her a letter for her 18th birthday, one for if/when she got married and one for if she had children (which she did). Her dad held onto them and gave them to her over the years.

This is the episode that solidified Violet Evergarden as one of my top 3 personal favourite animes. I know I have said that I cried watching this show a lot, but this one REALLY hit. My reactions were almost identical to yours, Greg. I'd thought it would be a straightforward and simple episode until the reveal came and it finally dawned on me why Violet spent 7 days there 😭.
