I don't think that everything is supposed to be pulled together by the end of this episode. It's very much a two parter. You're half way through the story. But your comments helped me put my finger on something that bothers me here, and that's the acting. There are those who are excellent and natural on screen; Jackie, Pete, Rose, the Doctor - and there are those who are perhaps not doing such a great job; Mickey, Lumic (he's a great actor but is not attempting to inject any subtlety here. Maybe it's the script? There's a fair amount of monologuing going on). I think that's what is causing some of the limitations in the episode - it can be jarring when you see 'acting' happening. Anyway, part 2 next week. I think you'll like it.

It is a shame that the character of John Lumic played by the late great Roger Lloyd Pack is a little cartoon villianish. It is pretty much the only aspect of the episode I don't enjoy that much. Which is a shame. I'm not sure if this was the way he was instructed to play the part or if it was his own creative choice. He is probably generally more well known as a comedy actor for two roles in particular.
