Netflix bought the rights it didn't produce the series. Also there is a extra episode on netflix under violet evergarden special.

The studio that made the series is Kyoto Animation. Its one of my favorite anime studios.

Ohhh yessss 🎉 Love Violet!!! The animation alone makes it worth watching. S-tier stuff imo. Also, did you notice that the voice actor for Violet is the same as Mikasa?

Finally Greg, you started an anime I have seen and I can comment on it. Haha Also I am glad you are finally branching out as far as anime genres go. This show in particular is more of a coming of age/drama/slife of life kind of thing so you were right to set your expetations for more character drama and much slower pacing comapred to other anime you watched before . The studio that produced this show is Kyoto animation , it its one of my favorite anime studios . It is well known and well respected in the industry among its peers . The show itself , i think its the most beautiful show that was released in 2018. If for nothing else its just a feast for your eyes and ears , I felt the episode was really good from pacing standpoint and just establishing everything in first ep. I think the biggest highlight for me was the body language , the dialogue itself was pretty good too, tho sometimes it was beating you over the head with Violets character and upringing. But the actual body langue felt really subtle and nuanced , most shows dont do that cause they cant dedicate resources animating body language and micro expressions . And this show just nails those particular things. Same for musical score, it feels very western /period piece like approach and i think it fits for the most part Character designs too just so god damn good , especially the eyes and the hair lol. I think the set up/concept of the show is pretty good too, just exploring themes of humanity, war and human connection . Theres this melancholic feel to this show that i really like, cause i like melancholic anime stuff hahah. I am glad you onboard , since its super different from what you are used in anime and the slower pacing and more grounded approach without hype and stakes can be boring to some people .

Maybe Greg will do a shojo next lol. Evan Call did the score. Its amazing, bought it on iTunes. Love the light reflections especially through liquids and off metal The sound design is great like the metal clicks you hear in the background for violets arms.

You can say that again haha, the animation is GORGEOUS!!! Really happy you're excited for this show :) it's been a very interesting change of pace so far, very much enjoying it!!! Also, I'm pretty sure I missed the voice there until you pointed it out haha. Don't worry though, one of these days I'll have my ears trained to catch them. Actually thought I heard Dio in one of these characters as well... lol

Hahahaha at long last!!! Was starting to think you just like John better 😝 but seriously man, happy to have you for this one!! I can definitely see (at least based on these first couple episodes) why you like this studio so much. The animation, the music, it's all really beautiful. And honestly, it's really nice to change it up toward something that's meant to be more of a slow-burn and a character study. It seems like what we get the most in the States is the action-oriented stuff, but stuff like this just goes to show you what a broad potential the medium has. And yeah as far as body movements and mannerisms are concerned, this was on another level from a lot what I've seen up to this point. Excited to see what it all grows into :)) Aaaand is shojo a different type of anime I should be familiarizing myself with? lol?

Shounen is a target demographic aimed young/teen males , so My hero academia . JoJo and hunter x hunter . Shojo is basically target demographic consisting of young/teen females . While Shounen usually focus on action , battles , hype moments and stuff shojo usually tackles romance, personal relationships , character growth and so on. 9 times out of 10 is very character driven stories that also tackle romance , lots of times is also a lot more grounded and revolves around school setting . Anime wise its not as popular as shounen(well nothing is) so a lot of times production values are not as high as shounen and very few shows get multiple seasons . My personal take on that, I got tired of shounen, watching one after the other for years and years lol, since i was new to anime and shojo was such of breath of fresh air at the time and just character driven stuff is a lot better since its the focus . Hope that clears up some stuff , hahah
