This is one of my favorite s5 episodes, but also one of the saddest episodes of the series. The heart wrenching scene with Ellen and Jo before the explosion still makes me cry every time I watch it. Also, I shipped Dean and Jo so hard, so it broke my heart that any future they could've had was taken away. Love Crowley and Lucifer here. All of the actors in this episode really brought their A game. Loved your reactions!

An episode rich with fantastic characters. So sad losing Ellen and Jo, but we have Lucifer and now Crowley. Mark Sheppard shared at a con, that they had trouble finding an actor for the crossroads dude. Apparently, not many old dudes, in Vancouver, wanted to kiss another man. (I think the story was shared at a NerdHQ). Lucifer doesn’t take his vessel because Sam needs to say yes first. Remember Cas’s vessel said yes and in “TheEnd” Dean tells younger Dean about Sam saying ‘“yes.” I love season five.

Angels have to get CONSENT to possess a human. Lucifer can’t just “take” Sam. And Bobby burned the photo because it was his way of giving Ellen and Jo a hunter’s funeral. I was dreading this one. I cry. Every time. Nice job, guys 👍

Janet Shearer

I forgot to say that I just love when Meg calls Cas “Clarence.” (I hope you both have seen that old movie)

Melanie LeBlanc

Greg acting grossed out when John said Jo is like Dean's little sister was so funny. Especially since he wants Sam and Dean to kiss almost every episode. Mark Pellegrino does such a good job as Lucifer, and Mark Shepard as Crowley is just perfection. BAMF Castiel for the win, and RIP Jo and Ellen. Gone but not forgotten.

(fyi i havent ready any other comments before writing this) Tfw you kill off your only two recurring female protagonists :00 w/o jo and ellen we have… anna milton the angel, becky the superfan,,,,,......... yeah thats all i can think of. Can you tell i’m upset at how tv at large kills women to fuel the real hero’s manpain? Okay okay, i’ll cut myself off now, that’s an essay for another time. This show does get better about uh not killing every woman, eventually. Anyway! Their family photo near the beginning (bc honestly, isnt that what it is? A family portrait? I’m making myself sad.) is so so sweet, and heartbreaking. Lucifer being SO confident about sam saying yes has always been especially scary to me, because his certainty makes ME think like, does he really know the future? Is he right? And yeah, even when confined to a circle for most of the action this episode, castiel still is a badass lol. Nearly halfway through season 5!!! Wow! as always, excited for more!

I just love this episode. It's one of my top 5 in season 5. Just that moment between Ellen and Jo when Ellen has decided to stay, and they have this like whole conversation, with just facial expressions and no words. Ugh. Breaks my heart. I swear though, my favorite seasons are 9 & 10, and I want to see you react to them sooooo bad, but we're only halfway there :( But give us 5 years and we'll get there eventually XD As always love your guys reaction <3

No time to watch your reaction today, so I just had a quick look at your comments. Apparently that kiss on the forehead was unscripted. Jensen trying to express more caring than just a kiss on the lips. I’m sure someone else will have said that Lucifer cannot just ‘take’ Sam. He is an angel and therefore needs consent. Anyway, looking forward to watching tomorrow. I also like that Jo died before Ellen not because it makes it any less excruciating (in fact, it’s even worse because Ellen sees her death), but because it means that Ellen staying behind was, as it turned out, not just an emotional but a physical necessity. Jo would not have been able to detonate the bomb. Update - watched your reaction now. Sorry we couldn’t warn you about the necessity to have tissues on standby for this one! 😂🥺😭. I still can’t really cope with this episode, so I only watched your highlights. Really enjoyed your reaction. Despite knowing what was coming, I still cried along with you. I think it’s the double whammy of Ellen as well as Jo. And that incredibly tender moment between Dean and Jo. Nick (Lucifer’s current vessel) isn’t so much rotting as burning away faster than Lucifer’s capacity to keep him together as long as Lucifer is still occupying him. I think this might be the first time (someone else might correct me) that we learn the second major reason Lucifer wants Sam. Sam is one of the only people physically capable of hosting an archangel without burning out.

This is one of my favorite episodes in the whole series. Mark Pellegrino plays Lucifer so well. Also Mark Sheppard as Crowley. Fun(ish) fact: the line said by Ellen "And Dean. Kick it in the ass." was put in memoriam to Kim Manners, "Kick it in the ass" was a catchphrase of his. Some of the crew actually cried filming it, it made the already emotional scene even more emotional.

Such a good one. After several rewatches I can say I STILL cry every time 😭 They just really nailed the emotion and the mood is heavy the whole time. Everything else I want to say is spoilery lol soooo can’t wait til next week! 😂

Eric Horstman

I am not analytical at all. I’m not a reviewer. All I can say is I cried when I first watched it and when Greg cries I cry. RIP Jo and Ellen and fuck this world. RIP George Floyd

I get what you're saying, and yet I never took exception with their deaths considering that this was written as the original final season and it was done exceptionally well. Ellen and Jo have a legacy in this show that they haven't been able to capture with any other female protagonists that came after, no matter how many t shirts are sold or hashtags get created. Lbr - we will still remember this episode a decade or more from now, whereas some others might fade from memory. It deserves it, too. Excellent writing, acting, directing...all around. That's why this episode is in most fans (that I know, anyway) favorite and top lists, which is really saying something in a series with 300+ episodes.

Vel

No matter how many times you see it, it still hurts like the first time.

Reggie B

oh i agree this ep is wonderful!! the deaths are well written and they make sense in the context of the story. just from a very big picture standpoint @ tv in general, im sad that female characters are often the first ones to be deemed "expendable." but! i will say this show has never had a huge cast of recurring characters anyway, not a lot of dramatic mid season deaths to pick from. ❤

Vel

Hahahaha! My husband ships wincest. I can't watch an episode without him making constant comments lmao.

Kristin Dorner

Ugh, one of my most loved/hated episodes😭 I loved Ellen and Jo and was always a bit disappointed that they didn’t do a little more with their characters. But wow what a send off. That part right after Jo dies where Ellen is crying and then she says, “It’s ok. It’s ok” gets me every damn time. She’s basically comforting herself from the pain of her daughter’s death by reminding her self that she’ll be dead soon, too (whether it’s so she can be with Jo again or just to stop the pain or both). Also, I think it is a VERY good idea for you to have tissues on hand for both Supernatural and Doctor Who...both shows have a habit of trying to yank your heart out of you chest when you least expect it. Love the reactions as always.

Michele

Nice to see an episode that makes you both cry. lol You didn't give a prediction on what the next episode might be about. You've been correct so far, for the last 3 episodes. I really hated seeing Ellen and Jo die. It meant that there was no hope of ever getting them back into the show. I'd wanted them in the show more. Their death was really hard for me to accept and I'm still pretty pissed by it. But, overall, I felt this was a really solid episode. We're finally getting some meat with Lucifer. Seeing him more and hearing more from him. The scenes between Lucifer and Cas are gold to me. The lighting, and close ups to their two faces when they were talking really set the tone. It was cool watching them interact and seeing how Lucifer seemed curious about Cas. Misha did a great job in showing how brave Cas was being in Lucifer's presence. Greg, you wondered why Lucifer doesn't just "take" his vessel (Sam). You need to remember that Lucifer can't just Take Sam as a vessel. Sam has to say "yes".

theGeekOutGirl

I watched the highlights yesterday and the watch along today. I cried both times. Samantha Ferris and Alona Tal were just so amazing TT__TT

Jonathan Cassell

Nice review/reaction guys it's a vary emotional episode I've liked and hated this episode every time I've watched it them introducing Crowley and then having Ellen and Joes final and all the times I've watched this episode it 😭😭😭hurts every time I've missed there characters but it was a vary good final for Ellen and Joe. I'm looking forward to the next episode I enjoyed it myself and still really looking forward to these ones (15,16,19,20,21) till next time ☺️👍 and agreed Mark Pellegrino is great as Lucifer

I don't know how true this is but I heard that because Jo didn't get that great reception from fans, they decided to kill her off. And Jensen mentioned in a convention (kind of jokingly but it might have some truth in it) when someone asked him if he thinks Dean will settle or something, he said, 'If he meets a huntress, you guys will just kill her off' (something to that effect). Like I said I don't know how true these are but that's just what I heard. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit of truth in it though lol...

Sharon Owen

I absolutely love Crowley, from the very beginning in this episode. The title of this episode really lives up to its name!

Dr. Foppo

Technically "the Satan" isn't one of the 5 things that the Colt can't kill. That would imply that there was Satan and four other things. Archangels is one of the 5 things the Colt can't kill. Lucifer is one of them. Couldn't tell from your wording whether you got that or not.
