Funimations website is ass had to watch through crunchyroll. its a little work to get synced up with your version. This is probably 4 or 5th watch. Also did you recognize Rays voice actor from one of the other series your reacting to.

Also love the horrorish shots/ sound design.

Aw, damn! Sorry about that, mate. I can increase the show sound periodically in future if that would help any! Definitely did not catch his voice at the time, but is that Killua?!?!?

thereelrejects

Yes!! Really appreciated how they kinda fade those elements in over the course of the ep. Starting you with little off-balance interludes before the drop finally comes 😅

I honestly thought first ep was a mixed bag lol. I thought some of the character animations were rought at times , especially when they were walking . And the way the faces are drawn feels off, like the mouth placement and size feels wrong , lmao . Maybe its just me . On the other hand the use of sound or lacck of it , was really well done, just good use of horror soundscape 101. As for ep itself, I thought the pacing was not that great, they way it jumped from one scene to another did not felt like its diminishing the tone and atmosphere of the episode . But the biggest issue for me (this is also in the manga too) The info dumps on our characters and their skillsets , it felt so basic and in your face , shounen like to do that a lot . But maaan i reallly disliked it here , like its an anime , there are ways to use visual language without beating over the head about their skills via info dumps . Its probably my biggest issue so far . Also it is considered kids show afaik. The manga runs in the same magazine as my hero academia lol. And like always the manga is more graphic . haha. Since i have not watched anime , i have no clue about the shows quality from technical standpoint , so it will be interesting . I head lot of people praise it .

2021-07-15 04:51:07 Ahh! What a nice surprise haha, wasn't sure if I'd see you for this one or not. Thanks for chiming in! I didn't notice as much with the mouths/motion, although I have been getting a slight chibi vibe at times due to the proportions with their heads? Sometimes the heads look a bit bulbous for the bodies, but I didn't find too many gripes with the animation at the outset.. that said, I'll be watching these things closer on the next one haha. REALLY dug the sound, tho - glad we can agree on that! Thought they built a nice contrast between the horror elements and the more "normal" score elements. Periodically turning the dial up on the underlying dread until Conny leaves the house. Overall, I didn't mind the pacing. At times I enjoyed being kinda disoriented moving into a new scene or setting, although there are some moments that read as either choppy editing or choices I didn't quite "get" (those weirdly brief closeups when the kids are all talking in the woods come to mind). I think the main thing I will join you with on this ep., though, was the dialogue. It didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of getting into the world of the show, but I agree the info dumps were reeaaal on-the-nose for a lot of it & could've been handled better/more creatively. I get we gotta set stuff up n we probably wanna do that quickly so as to get to the rest of the story, but... yeah, I agree they could've done used the medium for that instead of just flat-out telling us. Probably the main thing I'd like to see improve or finessed. Haha damn manga always getting the juiciest bits!! I'm gonna have to jump into manga at some point - been thinking of grabbing a copy of Uzumaki to start with.. But yeah, given what I've learned about the sensibilities of anime, I'm not surprised to hear it runs in Shounen Jump. Just found it sort of amusing that, at first, it feels like you're watching something accessible to/intended for smaller children... not like tweens & teens haha... and then the cannibalism comes in and it all makes sense 😅 Either way, curious to hear your thoughts moving forward (if you decide to stick with, of course). I've heard a lot of praise for a while now as well, so I'm hoping that some of the clunkier parts of the pilot get smoothed out as we move forward into the.. meat.. lol

i just got around to watching this anime. i know im a little late on watching this reaction but this is probably my favorite reaction to a first episode so far to an anime from you. this episode build up the intense of the different situations in the episode that got me scared at moments that made me jump to the edge of my seat and freaked me out with the animation style and music. but i am loving it right now with this episode. thanks for reacting to this show.
