148 episodes. Not really separated into seasons.

The changing color/design you noticed reflects Togashi’s flexible art style. He’s liable to do basic manga sketches on one page, then disproportionate psychedelia or hyperrealistic horror-style pointillism on the next. It sometimes gets watered down in animated form for consistency, but they struck a good balance here. Idk if anyone’s mentioned, but HxH is basically Togashi’s passion project. He already landed a mainstream hit with Yu Yu Hakusho earlier in his career (and is married to the creator of Sailor Moon) so he can more or less write what he wants with impunity, go on hiatus when he wants, do unconventional stuff with his story and art, etc. I think that’s why HxH is occasionally meandering and it sometimes feels like a concept is introduced and dropped, or the tone changes suddenly. Case in point: The random arena guy was a cameo from one of Togashi’s other manga. Looking forward to the Whale Island eps! They’re some of my favorites.

Just imagining Hisoka being a teacher, thats fucked up, lol. The whole orgasm segment is still fucking weird no matter how many times i watched the fight . I think the episode itself was a bit weaker than the previous one, the climax did not felt as good as the build up and few min of actual fighting in last ep. But overall its solid ep. The way I view this show . Hunter exam arc was establishing characters and world , heavens arena arc was basically a tutorial guide on Nen . Its dense, theres a lot fo info dumps and the emotional engagement via our characters is a lot weaker . I do think the are ways that this could have been presented much better, tho sometimes i forget that the manga itself is much older and it was one of the first series to do this kinda thing in the genre , a lot of super popular modern shows were inspired by this show in particular. So some stuff might not hold up as much as modern stuff . I can def see where you guys coming from and as for hopes and the stuff you asked about the future of this show . Well , I guess we just gonna wait and see... hehe

Ahhhhh, so what they're calling "seasons" is just.. sort of them just doing their best to break it up into chunks? Or do they divide them up by manga arcs/compendiums or something like that?

Correct their separated by arcs. Netflix just recently added the next 2 "Seasons"

Ahhhh haha that's who that guy was 😅was completely thrown by that lol. Would be quite curious to take a look at some of his manga work, perhaps I'll do some googling. This episode did seem to have a good blend of heightened visual flair to go along with the intensity & dynamics of the fight. I admit I know little about Togashi in general, but it sounds like he's in the ideal position haha, damn! They could just buy an island and form their own little anime empire at this point 😅That's pretty awesome, though, that he can just call his own shots and really pour himself into whatever inspires.. We should all be so lucky!! Makes sense in regards to the show. I guess the counterweight of that autonomy is the occasional jarring shift or trail-off when a more enticing idea arises. I think it's kinda fascinating how pieces can reflect their creators in ways. I haven't looked it up obviously, but I've heard a lot of love over time for the Whale Island arc. Very excited to get there, whatever it is!!

2021-07-15 04:51:28 Oh god lol, please don't make me imagine Hisoka in any position that involves children more than I've already had to 😅😱that orgasm moment was truly odd.. like.. part of me finds the wtf-value hilarious, but also... yes, quite unsettling 😳 As for the structure, I can meet you there. There's such a buildup toward Gon finally decking Hisoka & it makes a great climax to the last ep. But yeah, by comparison this one felt more like a comedown/transition out of the arc. And especially seeing Gon reach his goal at the end of the last one, I didn't really expect him to win at all. That's pretty crazy that it's had such a strong impact on the medium. Maybe as we get further along n see more shows, I'll be able to pick some of that up.. but good to know either way, I appreciate the context. Anyhow, glad we're not insane at the very least :P Shooting the next one here in a few actually to chop up for the afternoon. Been kind of a funny week with all that's going on in the world.. nonetheless curious & excited for what's ahead, 'specially now that we're back on the road once more!!

Hisoka is called "the magician". Maybe those not in the know in the crowd thinks he is performing magic. I really liked the ref awarding as many points as he reasonably could to Hisoka. After all, Hisoka has killed 6 opponents in that ring. Gon was clearly never going to beat Hisoka, so as far as the ref was concerned, he was trying to save Gon's life (little did he know that Hisoka was himself doing everything he possibly could to stop himself from killing Gon, to the extent of allowing Gon to hit him again and again while he quelled his urge to destroy him). And that's the key to Hisoka. He wants to kill Gon, not screw him (although he probably wouldn't object - most people agree Hisoka is pan sexual). Hisoka gets his rocks off by killing. The more powerful the opponent, the better. We've seen it before and we'll see it again. His other main focus is Chrollo (you've already reached that point in the anime, as this comment is way back in your past!), who turns him on just as much, and is no child. He is a pervert, but not a conventional one.
