This is the part in the manga where I completely fell in love with Kirishima as a character. He is my absolute favorite in all of anime, let alone the show. His past and his entire arc hit me hard because of how much I relate to his struggle. For me, his character symbolizes change. An important fact of life is we all strive towards things that don't come naturally to us. For example, being a hero. Even though he feels so weak by his unaction in helping those girls, he finds the courage to push on and strive to be better. Even though jumping into a dangerous situation without concern for your well being didn't come naturally to himself(like it did for Izuku), he overcame that obstacle and proved himself wrong. I just think that is a very beautiful theme for a character to have.
