Interesting - I've never really seen Dean as being afraid of Sam as such, only afraid for him. I think we've seen he's been afraid of what Sam might do with his powers, but we see him also fear what the powers might do to Sam. I see what you mean about Sam being perhaps too calm, but remember this one isn't about his own personal issues ("I'm a whole new level of freak" etc), it's about Dean. Partly, he's finding it a bit funny that his normally badass brother is suddenly such a wuss, and also he's just focussing on the job. But I think really, it's probably just because it's a Dean focussed episode. They're giving it over to Jensen, who can just produce comedy gold [bleurgh - that paragraph contained three "just's". Learn to write, Toad!] The bit at the end was not rehearsed - they often run two cameras, which is why they got him from more than one angle. The story behind this is that Jared deliberately missed his cue (he was supposed to bang on the roof of the Impala) to see what Jensen would do, and that was the result (you can hear Jared and others laughing in the background). More BTS - the snake totally freaked Jared out. In the end, he left the room. In the scene where the snake finally slithers down over Jensen's leg, they've gone in a bit closer because, if you notice, Jared is no longer sitting next to him! Oh, and I'm not sure if you've noticed the clock before, but watch out how many episodes it appears in :)

yeah, dean having always had the mentality of taking care of/protecting sam, and then adding that he's started to be afraid of his own brother?or of sams powers, or what sam could become, etc. is so so interesting. especially keeping in mind that his father's dying words to him were literally "save sam, and if you can't, you have to kill him." so he's already been told that his brother could become some kind of threat. it makes sense that, since learning sam has some small amount of demon blood in him, as well as him using his powers, it's starting to be more of a possibility for dean. (i know its a relatively small part of the episode, but sam and dean's changing relationship/dynamic rlly caught my eye on this rewatch!) and yeah i agree sam probably was calm thru the story just because it was a more dean-centric episode, but i wish they could have thrown in a line like "i dont want to watch my brother die again" yknow? ANYWAY, love seeing your guys' appreciation and insight grow while still having hilarious remarks to say. as always, looking forward to next week's reaction :)

"But then you're going to be under three more floors..." Thanks a lot for the new fear, John 😒

Bravo! Great reaction guys. You’re right, Greg—Sam did seem detached, and it’s always kinda bugged me, but you’re right—the director could’ve given him different notes. I’ve always ascribed it to the writers forgetting about his character in favor of writing Dean as funny as possible, and it doesn’t bother me anymore. 😁

I love this Episode, great Reaction! Dean screaming to the cat is one of the most hilarious things in this show for me. xD Freaking out over hunting monsters or runaway after seeing the Ghost was gold too. And poor Luthor. Had to go through all that 2 times.

This is one of these episodes where i really feel bad for the ”monster” of the week

Haha don't worry, you're a fine writer, Toad; "justs" 'n all. 😉I think you're probably on the money with this one. I'd say Dean's probably much more scared *for* than *of* Sam, but feels like there's still a smidge of "of" in there. And with Sam, that sounds about right - let Dean shine & let Sam be sorta off to the side amused & getting shit done. And from just an acting standpoint, I always enjoy that two-way dynamic - when Dean's off his pins for some reason and Sam's just sorta off to the side getting a mild kick out of everything. Sounds right with the end bit as well. Nothing felt staged or anything - but it's cool to know it all kinda stemmed from a missed cue. That much *more* spontaneous. I love when li'l goofs and things like that pop up & turn into little gold nuggets. Poor Jared!! 😅😰that's pretty amusing though, given the context. Definitely remember them cutting in, I'm gonna have to go back n look at that shot lol. Aaaand now I'm gonna have my eyes peeled for clocks in all the upcoming episodes 😳

Right?? I do appreciate that, especially in this season, even when the overall episode isn't suuuper-related to the serial story, they still make time for potent character moments like that. Using the neurosis for comedy and then making way for the contrast that comes with his deeper fears coming up later in the episode. Good stuff! Also THANK YOU for the reminder, because it's been a while since I've thought about John's dying words 😰the further we get, I feel like I need a little notepad of the MOST pertinent details. But yeah, this season seems to be all about the potential rift between Sam & Dean... or a potential unholy union of angels & demons?! And I think that's the main issue we had with the Sam side. Overall I actually really enjoy that dynamic when in episodes where Dean's kinda freakin' out and Sam gets to be chill & amused by everything; but yeah in this one, given that it's a pretty near-death situation for Dean, I think even just a line or two like that, a little scene could've solidified the STAKES!! a little more. Just a lil extra oomf. But anyhow.. really glad you're still enjoying watching along with us! Really appreciate the kind words :) it'll be next Saturday before ya know it!!

Thank ya!! 😊 And yeah, I get the sense the overall consensus is that full-focus went to Dean-o for this one. Mainly just thought a liiiittle more immediacy for Sam might've bolstered the gravity of the stakes, but there are other worthwhile character beats in there that certainly hit the mark. And I always love when Sam gets to sit back and watch Dean squirm lol. Glad you enjoyed!! :)

Thanks, mate!! I really did feel bad for Luthor in this one. Part of me was hoping it might be some sort of reversal where they have to set his soul at ease or something, but alas.. I guess he's caused a fair amount of awful damage, himself, now so in that sense it fits.. But AHH so many great goofy Dean moments in this one haha. His whole freakout monologue about how their job is completely insane is definitely a highlight moment in the series for me 😂Cat's definitely up there as well haha

thereelrejects

Right?? I was half hoping there'd be some sorta twist where instead of turning the fear around, they'd have to set his spirit at ease or something.. But I guess he did kill a lot of people, so.. 😅😰

Fun fact: the clip of Dean screaming because of the cat must've been used as a promo for like 4 years straight or something 😂 it was used and re-edited a few times, some with the network narrator voice over even. But yeah I remember it was just a constant thing during commercials 😂
