I'm really glad you guys enjoyed it. I think this was the episode the completely hooked me and sold me on the show. Like previous eps some of them were good, some not so much. But this I felt really encapsulates how hxh goes about confrontations and fights. And yeah the whole fight was really tense and brutal. I just love how our main hero is just getting shit beat out of him, and so much weaker compared to oponent. It was a nice subversion of the genre trope. Again it also showed gons determination as a double edged sword. Like yeah he won and he figured out the point of this phase. But at what costs, his tunnel vision led him to broken arm and internal injuries, where he could have just gave up and continued next round. It shows how stubborn and prideful gon can get, to a fault and his own safety. I also liked how Killua despite being so strong and experienced, did not got the point of the phase and got frustrated because gon was seen as having more potential than him. And that he could not understand why ninja dude gave up. Also as far as the brackets go. You only need one win to pass the phase, the one who loses gets more chances to pass. That's why there's gonna be one person that failed and all the others that passed, based on brackets. Gon won, so he's out of the tournament, he passed. And you guys completely nailed what hxh is about, especially when talking how fights go, and the fact you haven't really seen straight up fight that use brute force. It's very unusual approach for the genre, just having more tactics and inner thoughts, yet because the writing is usually on point and characterization is so well done, it feels as good as any highly animated action sequence
