This episode is a big one for shield fans. I had actually gone to see winter soldier before watching this one and was very curious how they would handle it in the show. The Bill Paxton twist I sort of suspected because he plays a lot of bad guys but wards is the one that hurt because I didn’t see it coming at all. You missed the line where hand said to an agent to monitor the audio in all the rooms which is how she heard everything. Fun fact if you remember how fury escaped the car in winter soldier he used Fitz’s tool that he used this episode that Garrett said all the higher ups “hog”

This is when SHIELD really takes off, Winter Soldier totally changed the game for this show. I don't think anyone saw the Ward turn coming, while I didn't love his character at this point he was definitely trusted by everyone. Bill Paxton is great as always. The look of betrayal on Tripplett's face at the end always gets me. Also May and Coulson have amazing chemistry.

I can imagine!! Bet the hype would've been pretty crazy watching this back when Winter Soldier was dropping. Thaaat would make sense re: Bill Paxton. They just really got me hoping that likability was genuine lol. Great casting on both counts, tho. He's super-likable in the lead-up, but also super believable in the turnaround.. but yes, Ward was a decent shocker. Had not expected that - clever the way they make you suspect pretty much everyone else except him throughout the episode lol. Aaand that's good to know. Not a huge deal, but does account for the convenience there. And that's so cool re: the Mouse Hole!! Sometimes it's the little crossover details/easter eggs that are my favorites haha.

2021-07-15 05:00:57 Certainly feels that way, holy shit!! I can only imagine how intense the fan excitement & hype would've been at the time. The turn with Ward definitely got me. They did a good job of really twisting things around this episode to keep you disoriented. Said this above, but it's fun looking back & seeing how they make you suspect most everybody at some point *except* Ward. Thinking maybe the proximity to the Lorelei episode also helps sorta throw you off since he's already had a traitorous turn once. Gahhh, poor Tripplett!! Really hoping he gets to stick around & have some more to do moving forward - especially given his position in relation to Garrett & Ward 😓LOVED the back & forth between May & Coulson this episode as well, especially as May really begins to get emotional. I'm worried for Mom 'n Dad haha

I really wish I had been caught up with these reactions by this point. Sucks I'm a bit late t ok the party bot sure how many of my comments you will see, but yeah this was the big moment. And I mentioned before, all of it was seeded. They ham it up with Ward a bit more in this episode, knowing they're about to pull the trigger. In particular, his very cliche conversation with Skye before they kiss. I was honestly cringing, but then it all makes sense. So much of it was an act. If you think back to the Lorelei episode, Lady Sif puts the device on her before Ward pulls the trigger. The way it cuts makes you think there might've been some leeway in the timeframe, and Ward probably pulled the trigger right before the spell was broken. But no, Ward had snapped out of the spell and saw his chance to kill May without it being suspicious. Of course, he "snaps out" of it right after pulling the trigger. Another little giveaway: in the previous episode Deathlok is looking at Coulson and Garettt with his heart vision. But only Coulson lights up red signaling he's a target. Garrett is only about halfway into the hallway, so again they leave it up to your imagination that maybe since his full body wasn't in frame the targeting system didn't highlight him. Other fun things throughout the episodes include Ward cuts and facial expressions when it comes to deceiving people, and in this episode there was a few cuts to him that seemed innocuous at first but make sense once he is revealed. The standout being Victoria Hand talking to Simmons about that's how Hydra wins. Bu gaining your trust, by becoming your friends, and then they strike. Cut to...Ward and Skye. Just an insane episode. Makes sense why it's called "Turn, Turn, Turn". A smaller little thing that bookends the previous episode, which is rightly called "End of the Beginning", Skye becomes an Agent of Shield. And by the end of this episode l, Shield has fallen, and Skye looks at her badge. It's not overly symbolic or anything, but the sentiment is quite somber and I like to point it out. As for Ward, while I did feel betrayed and shocked, I do think I much prefer evil Ward. As with most in the fandom back then, Ward was just the generic action guy. And everything about him was super cliche. The fact that it was an act just completely energizes his character, and the way he us acting next episode is just much more fun. I mean the way they planned his reveal was insane and it's so cool to see all the hints in all the earlier episodes. To tell us this wasn't some random writing decisions to spice up the character. It was there from the get go since they knew they were driving towards The Winter Soldier. Just a great feat IMO. So much to say about this episode 😂
