Supernatural S3 Finale STREAM

Okay, I love how terrified John looked when he saw an ice cream truck. 😂

Lilith's white light... I think she tried to use a build up of her power against Sam. Then, she was confused and scared when it didn't work.

One more thing ... My understanding is that Supernatural started on the WB, then went to CW after the WB-CW merger. Then, Supernatural was added to Netflix (maybe 2012) and the show got a broader audience.

Okay, I totally loved y'alls reactions to everything. To me, this wasn't the best season finale in SPN's long history, those would be seasons 5 and 9 imo, but it is in my top 5 list, I really loved it, and I completely understand why it is for you guys. A huge part of my love for this episode, besides everything you two mentioned, is the homage to Twilight Zone's episode "It's a good life." that Lilith's storyline payed tribute to. Even down to the family Lilith terrorises being named Freemont, the same as the family in the TZ episode, and the grampa passing the note referencing the 1983 film version of The Twilight Zone, in which one of the girls living with the monster boy tries to write a note for help and is sent to cartoon land and killed. It's one of TZ's episodes that left a lasting impression on me, and I love that Kripke and co. love the same TV shows and movies that I do. They are like my spirit animals. This season was rushed and did suffer from the loss of 6 episodes worth of story line. Originally Sam, through the help of Ruby, was meant to save Dean by tapping into the demon blood abilities that have been dormant since Dean killed YED. Because the writers strike happened, that was changed and gave us a much more satisfying, yet torturous, ending to Dean's deal. We also lost some stuff that the boys, and us fans, were suppose to learn in season 3, and wasn't revealed until season 4. It makes me wonder how finding this stuff out in season 3 and having Sam save Dean from hell would have changed the story line going forward. Either way, Kripke had a 5 year story arc, so strap in for the next 2 seasons. They are a hell of a ride. No, the show never changed networks, but it started on the WB, which merged with UPN and became the CW. Dawn Ostroff (the former President of Entertainment of The CW) was disinterested in this show remaining the way it was. Supernatural didn't fit into her vision for the network. Teenage ansty shows were her bread and butter. She even went as far as to develop a show with a teenaged ghost hunting character named Sam called Reaper. Er Dawn, that sounds like Supernatural lite LOL. It was no secret that "the network" *coff-Dawn-coff* wanted more female characters on the show as possible love interests for the boys, and for angsty drama to insue, when she realised that she had a show called Supernatural. She even tried moving Supernatural to Friday nights hoping that would kill off the show. Which it didn't, but the show was on the bubble and we all waited to see what would happen to our little show until the early renewal it received in Season 3. Overall, season one averaged about 3.81 million American viewers, season two averaged only about 3.14 million American viewers, and was in danger of not being renewed, but received mostly positive reviews, with the cast and crew garnering many award nominations, and praise being given towards the brotherly chemistry between the two leads. Season 3 despite its low ratings, it averaged only about 2.74 million American viewers, the series received an early renewal for a fourth season. The writer's strike is said to have had a hand in that.

Finale time - yey! Again, I think this had a bit less impact than it might have done in a full length season because they didn't have the right build up, but they got there in the end. My favourite bit in the whole episode is the smile Dean manages to give Sam after the clock strikes 12. Heartbreaking. And Bobby - "do I look like a ditchable prom date to you?". And "Family don't end with blood", which has become a fandom mantra since then. Agree the little girl was brilliant. By playing it completely straight she came across as far more sinister than anything else she might have done. Ruby never got out of the circle. Lilith freed her and took over the body (from outside the circle, Lilith would have been able to break it in the same manner as anyone else). Lilith is extremely powerful - presumably she teleported? Not sure exactly what her powers are. The show started on WB, then moved to CW basically when WB became CW, or CW took over WB (or whatever happened). It never hopped apart from that. This was the last time SPN was in any serious danger of cancellation. Helped also by Mark Pedowitz taking over from Dawn as President of CW. Mark has been a champion of the show. In any event, Season 4 was an enormous hit. Can't wait until you start! (Although don't forget to watch the bloopers reel).

I do like this finale! The emotional moments are what make it for me. I think the cast always gives it their all. All the scenes with Lilith and the family were soooo tense and the mom going “do it” ah! So good. The end shot of Dean in hell always gives me chills. I have been waiting since you started season 1 for you to get to season 4 and it’s almost here!!! It’s one of my favorite seasons, and I’m gonna be waiting for that notification next saturday. Lol

I think your "Ruby never left the circle" theory doesn't make sense. Dean would've had to have seen Ruby's true face to distinguish her from Lilith. That is the entire point of that scene with Dean making a comment about how much of an "ugly broad" she is. That scene's purpose is the setup for Dean then realizing Ruby wasn't herself later, and it also clarifies how recent the ability to see their faces was. He hadn't seen her true face before when they trapped her. Then Dean says "I should've realized sooner but you all look the same." So yeah he saw the difference, in the end. There is a moment when Ruby goes off camera. It's so forced in hindsight, and for over a decade every time I've watched that scene I can't believe I didn't think about it in my first watch. Greg and John didn't either, and I assume it's the tension. Ruby goes in to check a room by herself, and closes the door almost fully. Then Sam moves on to "clear" another room. But he's the only one that can kill her with the knife. So it really doesn't make sense that they split up. They should've been clearing the rooms together. The next scene with Dean stopping Sam, Ruby just stands in the blurry background not saying anything. The switch was made.

Overall, I think this season was great given the writers strike. There's some shows that didn't survive that and this is one of the few shows where I didn't think the writing suffered too much. They were able to tell a cohesive story that moved the main story forward.
