“Time Is On My Side” is viciously grim, and I, like you two, loved it. It's a story about Sam and Dean recklessly pursuing solutions to a problem that seemingly has only one real solution, kill the demon holding Dean's contract. It’s heartbreaking because both brothers even admit that they know the other one is trying as best as they can to find a way to delay or stop the inevitable. For me, the primary conflict in “Time Is On My Side” stemmed from the disagreement Sam and Dean had regarding the best choice for saving Dean. Clearly, Doc Benton found a way to stay alive for 150 years. Could this be a solution for Dean, or at least buy the boys time to find a better one? And what will it cost them? Also, a huge shout out to Billy Draco, who's film credits include Deputy Mather in Pale Rider, Frank Nitti in The Untouchables, and Papa Jupiter in The Hills Have Eyes (2006) to name a few, on his performance of the Doc in this. I don’t know that Doc Benton was ever meant to be that memorable. I felt his storyline was honestly meant as a vehicle for angst, character development, and tragedy. It did well in delivering all that, but Draco made the Doc a character I still remember seasons later. Unfortunately, I never felt like this episode made immortality Doc Benton style a viable choice, and I thought it was pretty clear that Sam was pursuing a dead end. At the same time, this is directly paralleled with Dean’s journey. He thinks it’s far more practical to seek out Bela and the Colt, despite Sam (correctly) predicting that the Colt is long gone. I personally think somewhere deep down inside Dean knew it was most likely a dead end trip, but, like Sam, he had to try. I have to admit that killing Lilith – if that’s even possible without the Colt – seems like the most sensible plan, despite that it’s also horrifyingly daunting. And really, writer Sera Gamble brilliantly forces Dean to face his future... if he gets out of going to Hell... by having him meet Rufus Turner, the man who can lead Dean to Bela, and maybe the Colt. And hell yeah, Steven Williams. Mr. X from The X-Files! Anyway, to make Rufus a glimpse of what is to come for Dean? It's haunting. First of all, Steven Williams is so good in this role. He’s bitter, hateful, and cynical, and it’s all because of his life of hunting. Sure, I would have liked to have more of Rufus’ story, but I was still entertained by the notion that Dean might be able to escape his deal with Lilith, but he can’t escape the unhappy future that awaits him. He’s never going to have things easily. He’s not getting a happy ending. The loss of Bela Talbot, I couldn’t help feeling incredibly sad about this. I enjoyed her character a great deal, and I had wondered where the hints about her past in “Red Sky in Morning” would lead her storyline. I feel like Bela’s story was more of a tragedy than a comeuppance because of one single scene: the flashback that explained why she made a deal ten years prior. Since it’s heavily implied that her father abused her, that means the crossroad demon who sought her out, manipulated her at her most vulnerable. That demon fed on her fear and terror, gave her a solution that would get her out of an abusive situation, and set her on the path that she’s on now. Her behavior – her need to detach, her obsession with money, her grey morality – all of it had a new context on which it was based. I can’t deny that her desire to get out of her contract is what put Dean in danger, too. If she hadn’t stolen the Colt and handed it over in the hopes of surviving, then Dean might have a decent chance to kill Lilith. Without the Colt, they still need to find another way... FAST! But the way that she dies is heartbreaking because she spent ten years free of abuse, and now she has to go to Hell because of it. It’s horrifying for that reason and because of what it means for Dean Winchester. Bela couldn’t get out of her contract. How in the world is Dean going to??? There are three weeks left on Dean's contract during this episode. It explains Sam’s desperation. It explains why Sam was willing to entertain something so horrid as alchemical immortality. It explains why Dean refused it. And I thought that choice was integral to understanding Dean: he wanted to stay human all the way until the end. He’s already gotten a glimpse of what he might become in Hell, and I think that is always on his mind. He's already had his round of desperation when he almost killed an innocent man thinking he was the demon that held his contract thanks to crocotta!John. I mean… I think you can see it on Dean’s face in that opening scene where they’re confronting the demon about who holds Dean’s contract. As the reality of this deal slides ever closer, he’s starting to think about what Hell might actually be like. AND IT’S TOO MUCH, but Dean's decided he's not so willing to cross that line anymore. I don't believe he has given up the fight to save himself. He's just not willing become a monster to save himself from Hell. I thought it was a great set-up for the finale, and I'm glad you guys did too. I hope the finale doesn't disappoint you two.

St. Pablo

This just came to me out of nowhere I don't know if you guys have heard this, but Jensen was gonna be in the MCU. He was one of the many people who auditioned for Captain America and made it pretty far in. After that he was the original pick for Hawkeye, but he didn't want to be the meh side character with little screentime for a franchise he didn't know was gonna make it, so he played it safe with Supernatural. And I’ve seen some people say they want him as Moon Knight. Now, there are rumors that DC wants him for a role. A few that have been rumored is Green Lantern and Red Hood since he played Red Hood in the animated movie, and cosplayed him for halloween. It’s all mostly rumors and “he said she said” stuff, but it’s cool to speculate about. Lastly, I saw recently on JDM’s insta that he, Jensen, and Jared all got a tattoo saying: "Me and @hilarieburton weren’t the only ones joined for life….@jaredpadalecki @jensenackles and myself will forever have a bond that is both special, and permanent. Love you both dearly,". Sometimes I forget these are friends who have known each other for about 15 years. Random info spill, but maybe it’s something new and interesting.

Toasted Toad

I don't know if it was as definite about that (re Hawkeye). Jensen has since played it down, saying he was simply among a number of actors who was going for the part. He did not turn down an offer.
