Gotta love that Miley Cyrus playing not-quite-Hannah-Montana doing a not-quite-Head-Like-a-Hole cover from the most recent season of Black Mirror!

Catchy song but got a little Hannah Montana vibe to it a little but overall a little to poppy for me😃

Yeah haha, I feel ya. I feel weird knocking it for that because I guess that's kinda the point, but.. fascinating li'l viral interlude nonetheless haha.

It's possible that I'm giving the song writing too much credit, but-my theory is that it is hyperbolic in order to contrast toward who Ashley truly wishes she could be. In the beginning, when she glances at the small rock venue (that she ultimately performs in), to me, that was a clue that there is a division of identity within her. Too much English teacher talk, sorry lol Basically, I think the video and her look are meant to be dramatically bright and then starkly dark to create a dichotomy on the surface, in order to illustrate her inner frustration. Lastly, no shame, I like the song lol, both versions! Kind of reminds me of Coal Chamber's cover of "Shock the Monkey" versus Peter Gabriel lol

2021-07-15 05:10:02 Haha no worries! I like to think that any English teacher talk will just help me continue improving my grammar & critical thinking 😝 Also I'm gonna have to look up that Peter Gabriel cover lol, but I like your breakdown here! Seems lik the lyrics also go to support that too; partly because of the contrast with Head Like a Hole (..at least if you're familiar at all with the original song) and in the way that they ironically parallel and contrast with her actual life/career as the episode presents it. And I don't blame you enjoying it haha. I s'pose it goes to show a good tune is good no matter what style you dress it in!
