Damn... Netflix cut out the midway title card that gave Envy a farewell spotlight. Also sucks since it makes the transition to the Armstrongs less jarring.

Everything involving Mustsng and Envy in this episode was brilliant. I love that they really let us sit with the stakes and gave time for everyone to give their opinion on what Mustang was doing. It's weird to feel bad about Envy after all he's done, but living that existence and going out like that is honestly tragic.

One of my favorite episodes!! You finally get to see the reason Hawkeye is so beholden and loyal to Mustang. Besides the fact that they obviously care for each other, the amount of trust she had to let him burn the tattoo off her back without killing her? Insane. Furthermore you see why him hurting people with his flame alchemy is so devastating for her because essentially, she gave him the key her father/his mentor wouldn’t. Mustang wouldn’t be able to hurt people, without her giving him the equations so she blames herself. SO MANY LAYERS. Lol And I love how everyone was mostly silent during Envy’s monologue in the end. It really drives home how sad and pathetic the situation really is. you’re getting so close to the end! It’s only going to get more intense.

Aw, damn! I'd been told in the past they tend to cut one of the two of them. Is there any place that compiles them or anything?? ...suppose I could always search the screencaps.. 🤔

2021-07-15 05:13:14 Seriously!! I really appreciated the sort of intervention that goes on in the tunnel there. Not only for the confrontation of Mustang, but for Envy's appeal as well. You hit it on the head - and I think that sorta plays into some of the deeper human themes of the show. Envy has been such a despicable character in so many ways, but to see them tortured so savagely & reduced to a most humiliating (from their POV, anyway) defeat really does kind of wrench you a little. Even if you don't agree with envy at all, you still somehow can empathize with the position, that tragic quality as you put it. I love when a show or movie can really sell that complexity. The "good guy" doing something truly horrifying in the name of the greater good & the way cruelty - even against a monster - is cruelty nevertheless.

2021-07-15 05:13:14 I can see why!! I loved the little moments they chose to show from earlier during the war. They're great at using their prologues & epilogues thoughtfully. And especially to get that glimpse on the heels of such a devastating episode (at least as it pertains to Mustang's power).. like you said, all those layers of history, trust, regret, and nuance! I've really come to love the complexity of their relationship over time & this episode added another notch to that. And yeah, that really struck me - Envy bellowing out this one final attempt to get everyone to turn on each other and that silence is just deafening haha. You can truly feel in this moment that our protagonists are past those differences and on to something much, MUCH bigger. Not sure just how much more intensity I can handle haha, but I'll do my best to hang in there!! Only a few more to go!!! 😧
