I was not a fan of Envy true form, like it looked alright maybe? But CGI just ruined it for me. IDK it feels a lot more direct and less nuanced than FMA B usually is. Same for the stuff, how Envy triggered whole civil war, like I get it it makes antagonists more important and menacing and kinda shows how much influenced hommunculi had, but it just felt too neat and tidy. I much prefer the idea that it was just a random soldier and it was just building up to that specific moment due to tension and history . That way it feels a lot more grey and less direct , more messy . On the other hand I loved how Fuhrer Bradley dealt with Mustang. That way Bradley appeared way more dangerous and clever. And you could the the desperation in Mustangs face . Good stuff.

Y'know, that's a pretty fair point. I guess I didn't have so much a problem with the form, itself (partly I think too because I've just not seen as much of that motif in the shows I've actually watched - the big, crazy, horrifying anime monster), but I'm not too jazzed about the pretty obvious CG. And granted, it's a different medium, but even still, you can tell and it sticks out. Especially in a show where the drawings and painting are typically gorgeous... didn't mind some of the drawn close-ups, though. And while I hadn't thought far beyond it at the time, I very much appreciate your point about Envy and the Civil War. I don't hate the choice to make Envy the catalyst, but I definitely agree it would've painted a more-nuanced and challenging picture had it just been a random soldier. Not that there's nothing to the shadowy conspiracy angle, but overall I'm with you there. And MUSTANG!! That whole sacrifice aspect is super-sinister - the way the homunculi are so open with the idea that they're not gonna kill them just yet.. because they're gonna sacrifice them later. And yeah, even though it's effectively just one scene, it definitely left one of the biggest impacts of the episode. Feels pretty hopeless for Mustang in that moment - especially the way they handle that reversal with the Führer's lack of attachment to Selim in the face of Mustang's obvious attachment to Hawkeye... definitely dreading the next episode for them 😅
