Favorite Bond Theme Songs?!

Comments

Neeraj Krishnan

Live And Let Die -Paul Mcartney song. My personal favorite. The Christopher Walken and Grace Jones is "A View To A Kill" .Duran Duran sang the title song for that.

My top 5 is: A view to a kill (Duran Duran), You know my name (Chris Cornell), Live and let die ( Paul McCartney and Wings), Thundeball (Tom Jones), The living daylights (a-Ha)

Thanks guys. For me it comes down to two Roger Moore Bond films. "Live and Let Die"'s McCartney theme rocked and was well orchestrated. Beatles producer George Martin produced the song and also scored the film using its melody lines heavily almost eliminating the traditional John Berry musical themes. Carly Simon's "Nobody Does it Better" from The Spy Who Loved Me is a great sultry song in the female Bond theme song tradition. Both songs were hits and got lots of radio airplay which made seeing the movie more special as the films start and everyone recognized that new song they've been hearing.

Ron Harrison

There are some amazing Bond songs. Shirley Bassey singing Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever. David's right about Nobody Does It Better. It just sums up James Bond's character so well. Louis Armstrong singing We Have All The Time In The World is great too because it speaks to Bond finding his wife and him getting swept up in that. Chris Cornell singing You Know My Name and just the pounding energy it brings as a song is phenomenal. Gladys Knight belting out License To Kill is fantastic. Adele's version of Skyfall is amazing and haunting. The Propellerheads did a fantastic remix of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Sheena Easton's song For Your Eyes Only is terrific too. Tina Turner singing Goldeneye was great too. Good question.

There we go! That's one of the ones I think I caught on TV one night, so I may have missed the credits sequence for View to a Kill. Remember that movie being pretty wild haha. Good call on Live and Let Die! Even not being a Bond expert, that one's definitely stood out over the years.

Not bad! Think we're gonna have to compile ourselves a Bond playlist haha. Nice to see a little Cornell love in here with the classics as well! :)

No problem, man! That's actually kinda fascinating - growing up I think I'd heard (at least) Live and Let Die just as a song before I was aware of its connection to the Bond Films. Does seem kinda special having the songs really making a splash on the radio and then getting to see them in the full context. Kinda wish I could've experienced that haha. And I didn't know that about George Martin and the score for L&LD, that's so cool! Especially knowing that the motifs of that song carry throughout. Would definitely be curious to go back and revisit that one for the music elements alone. In the meantime, though, gonna queue up that Carly Simon song and get better acquainted with that side of the Bond theme spectrum :)

That's quite a list, man! Definitely making me curious to go back and make some sort of Bond theme playlist and really get to know some of these songs. Gonna queue up Nobody Does it Better to start with. In some ways, I think that motif of the the different themes (along with their respective opening title sequences) is one of my very favorite things about the series. Seems really special that they've been able to amass so many iconic songs over the years - excited to see who they get for the new Danny Boyle one 'cause I know that guy's always got a distinct flair for the music in his films. Appreciate you laying all these out, man! Definitely gonna start with these for our playlist haha.

Great guys. Take it easy.

A bit late but just to add to this - Radiohead were asked to do a song for spectre, and it was AMAZING....then the producers said it was too dark or something absurd. But there is a YouTube video where someone has put it over the opening credits and it’s well worth a watch. It’s infinitely better than Sam Smith. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/o4mIWoLg69Y

That's right, I heard about this!! Good lookin' out, gonna queue it up right now! 😁 . Kinda shocked they'd turn down Radiohead haha.
