So in the end you decided to watch in English or Japanese? Just for reference/watch along sakes? On the whole the tone shift , i can see people really digging how it balances that out. For me personally the funny moments while they were fun in vacuum it kinda took away from drama and more depressing themes of the show. Tonally its not as cohesive as I wanted. But I just think it comes with territory with genre specific tropes. With all that said , FMA B is still really entertaining to watch and I am am glad how stoked you are watching this show.

For now I'm continuing along with the English dub. And I can definitely see where you're coming from with regard to the tone shifts. I appreciate a good amount of variety, but I can see how those could hamper some of the show's heavier/more serious elements. Also made me wonder what the target demographic is for this particular show just because it does seem to oscillate between lightness and things that are pretty solidly dark/heavy... and the protagonists are technically children haha. Either way I'm definitely excited to keep watching. Was really into anime back in the day, then fell off for a number of years, so it's been really cool getting to return now and check out a show like this that I've been hearing about for so long. Appreciate your feedback!! :)

From what I understand it targets similar demographics as My hero academia, tho FMA B is a darker and source material is a lot older than MY hero academia. So basically 13+ year olds or something along the lines. Shounen genre sells the most in Japan, so the creator of series tried to fit the darker themes, messages in a package that would be accessible to most readers and structure the story telling in a way that it would not be considered 18+. That way it achieves great success in becoming mainstream outside of Japan while still allowing to have a bit more depth and complexity than most shows in that genre. At least thats my interpretation. All in all despite my issues , I think FMA B is one of the better entry shows to get into anime at least in this day and age

Ahh okay, that makes sense. Always found it interesting, even when I was younger, just noting the different sensibilities between our animation and the different kinds of anime. I know our standards for what's considered "appropriate" are slightly different, but it's kinda fascinating to start a show like this where I can clearly see the heavier, more complex elements, but also get a good sense for how kids could enjoy it. Part of me hopes we'll catch up at some point haha - adding a little more focus to the animation that's not COMPLETELY for adults or COMPLETELY for children haha. I feel like we're inching closer, but for now I agree so far - this seems like a prime show to jump into the medium with. Still feels unique and fresh despite the glut of stories centered around people with extraordinary powers these days haha.
