I had the same experience as Greg watching this in the cinema. There's a youtube video that goes through all the shots/scenes that were in the trailer that didn't make it into the film and it becomes clear an incredible amount was cut out at a late stage. It seems like the cuts were made so they could add in the Melody storyline but that was a strange decision to me because I found that storyline the weakest aspect.

yeah I saw an interview with Ernie, he said they offered Rick Moranis a lot more money than he was offered to come back and he still turned it down. :( It would have been amazing had he come back. I think the world needs more Rick Moranis..
