#44 Keys to Self-Correction, Blocking Quickly After A Kick - Sylvie's Technique Vlog (21 min) (Patreon)
Content
This morning I was watching a woman on pads, getting very frustrated because she was being told to kick, which she did, but then she was being kicked back and didn't have time to get her shin up to block. She slumped and looked at the padman like he was being uncool. Part of it was she was tired, but I could tell she thought he was kicking her before her foot was down... he was, in reality, kicking back at a very generously slow pace. I identified her issue immediately, being that she overturned her kicking leg and landed with the foot of her kicking leg behind her standing leg, making her weight and balance such that getting the block back up would take an incredible number of tiny adjustments and steps to happen. She had no idea. And it's such a simple fix, just land that foot back to the side a little and you're going to block faster than the padman has time to kick. or you could even teep him. Of course, this solution was so simple because I was watching from the outside. When you're fatigued, you don't feel where your foot is; you don't know why you can't block. You might mistakenly blame your opponent, which is a bummer because you give them control. So, I made this Technique Vlog to show that very simple solution, but also to talk about a few very basic, very helpful elements to use as self-correction anytime you find yourself in a "why is this happening?" scenario. These are very important principles which I use all the time, and hopefully thinking about your Muay Thai or the Muay Thai of others this way will help you like it has helped me.

These are the Namsaknoi MTL sessions I mention where I learned about the importance of feet landing, they are very good:
#65 Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn - Sharking The Angles (67 min) watch it here
#73 Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn 2 - Overcoming Distance (61 min) watch it here
You can learn a lot about the principles discussed here in this session with the Master of Ruup, Karuhat:
#111 The Karuhat Rosetta Stone 7 - The Secrets of the Matador (83 min) watch it here
Karuhat is the most documented Golden Age legend in history, thanks to the sum of all the filming and commentary we've been able to do with him. This session though provide the key to understanding all the other sessions. And there is a very special focus on his particular Golden Kick.
