I learned this technique a very long time ago, and I've been "working on it" in a kind of vague background sense for as long, but sometimes that's how these things go. You learn something and it simply doesn't mean anything to you at that time. Eventually it matters, and then you feel it.

Some of the stickiest points of using the hand on the opponent's chest are that your arm isn't strong enough, you aren't guarding your jaw at the same time (tuck your head, shoulder up like a long guard or punch), and slipping. Slipping is an issue when 1) you push without bringing your legs with you,  2) you push at the wrong time, or 3) your arm crosses your own body too much. So watch all those things.

What I find so cool about this technique at this time, why it's meaningful to me now, as opposed to when I've been learning it in the background for so long, is that I'm actually applying it both as the forward fighter - to stay close - and as a backwards fighter, also to stay close and not use distance itself as a defense. It's so badass.

Watch how Yodkhunpon practices it on the bag and make that your intensive training. But then, work it into the pressure of sparring or padwork. You can see in this Tecnhique Vlog how different it looks practicing it on the bag versus using it in sparring (for me), and that's both fine and good, but ultimately it should start looking more and more like the bag version. I'm just a little pollywog in this process at the moment.

"Eventually it matters, and then you feel it." I feel that sentiment in a lot of skills.
