Before Boo, there was ‘A Day In Th’ Life’, a strip I did for Malebox zine out of Washington,DC. These were the bright brief years where many major cities published zines geared squarely to black lgbt people.  I was asked to create a strip similar to the Leonard and Larry comic strip that ran for many years in Frontiers magazine and so “A Day in th’ Life” was born. It reflected what I was experiencing as a young black gay man in the 90’s recently arriving in Los Angeles. In a way the two lead characters, Billy and Dane, were two sides of my own personality: Bougie and Bohemian. The discussions and topics in these strips were the same as the ones my peers and I were having in real life. Enjoy this time capsule from black gay life at the end of the 20th century.
