Hi guys!

So what is this about? This is a new feature implemented by Patreon that allows new patrons to be charged as soon as they pledge. What does this mean?

Existing Patrons: All of you who are already patrons will be charged on the 1st of the month like usual. Nothing changes!

New Patrons: New Patrons will be charged on the day they become a patron, giving them access to all content shared with their reward tier. On the 1st of the following month, they will simply return to being charged monthly at the beginning of the month.

The main reason. When someone pledges, I receive an email with the good news. However, there's quite a number of people who pledge, get access to my content, and remove their pledge every few days. Some people become a patron of a monthly creator to check out the content, then delete their pledge before they are charged at the beginning of the month. This is highly discouraging for us creators and we feel like these people cheat not only us creators but also our patrons as you guys have been honest and loyal, and receive the same rewards as someone who doesn't play by the book.

This option prevents such cheaters from stealing creator content.

I hope you agree with me on this decision. Let me know what you think in the comments! =)

/ Confirmed by a Patreon employee, this feature will in fact become mandatory for all creators in the near future. /

Seems like a fine change to me!

Totally justified and I have no idea why they didn't handle it like that from the beginning. To pledge, download everything you like and then drop out before you're charged is a dick move that shouldn't even be an option. Creators who switch to this just have to remember to give visitors at least some form of preview before they pledge or people will be hesitant to do it.

Awesome! Glad I'm (obviously) not the only one who thinks that. =) Really appreciate the feedback.

As a new patron I have no problem with that... seems fair to me.
