UPDATE!

Feel free to read the novel below but I got some new ideas based on everyones feedback. So I think the best route is to focus on straight stairs for the three levels.

I also didn't even consider shelves/storage/etc under the shelf because I know it has been done before so I didnt think there was interest there.

If I were to do something under the stairs as well, would you want it as an object (as most current under stairs cc is) or a cutout that you could place similar to a door/window?

I may be limited as to how much I can do under stairs as far as sims *using* the space. For example, a bookshelf is doable, but something like a desk under the stairs wouldnt work. Hopefully that makes sense. Feel free to send me pinterest/inspo links too!

ONTO THE CUTOUT!

So I suck and I promised this as my 200 patron goal gift and still haven't finished it (although I did try to make it up to you by making you the hoarding set!). But I digress.

Basically, I had this grand plan for all these stair cutouts and it was going to be so great. I added some pics in this post of some of my inspiration ideas. But then the new curved stairs kinda threw a wrench in things. Before the curved stairs, I essentially had to consider 3 variations for short, medium and tall walls. Now there are soooo many different options for stairs I am a bit at a loss on how to proceed.

The cutout places like a window. So if I were to make them, i would need to make all the variations for the many curved configurations, the landings, and all the wall heights. Which is doable, but that would be so many items and I feel like it would get super confusing when trying to place them and figuring out which ones go where. there are also additional technical challenges with this but I wont bore you with that.

I still want to make good on my promise but I need your help! How would you best want to see this implemented? Would you want me to just make it for the straight sections of the stairs? Any other ideas?

I have attached the original stair cutout I made when I first has this idea. It doesn't have any fancy detailing like in my inspo pics but I need to get the concept/technical details down before I move onto that. This is a superrrr WIP, testing file so keep that in mind!! I just want you all to get an idea of how it places so it might help you better understand what you want.

This can be found under windows and you can search it by looking up 'test'.

Also I can add shelves and stuff in these cutouts too so there are a lot of possibilities! Let me know what you think and sorry again for my typical over-explained, extra-long post.

I’m great with just doing it for straight stairs

Anonymous

Straight stairs need it more than the newer stairs. They're boring ;)

mythicpatron

I think it's fine for.just straight stairs! It makes sense that way

Anonymous

Straight is fine You're right. Sometimes in game, too many pieces do become confusing. Great job.

Absolutely, straight stairs all the way. I didn't even know we had curved stairs now!! Haha. Would be great if we could add some functionality to them somehow like.. wardrobe/cupboard under the stairs. Omg could we keep our house decorations in there?!

shelovesshoes

Straight stairs. I'd Love shelves or a wardrobe in the cut

i’m definitely more interested in cutouts for straight stairs as they’re always too boring and i need something to make them look better and less out of place

Anna Bowen

Straight stairs please. And remember your amazing at what you do.

I'm fine with straight stairs! I'm awful with the stair tool anyway so most of mine end up straight tbh. I love the windows idea, and I love maybe a reading area under the stairs (I built a semi functional one in a townhouse, I'll grab a pic of it and send it) but with shelves and maybe cubbies, etc. Desks under stairs, or like a little entry way catch all would be nice, too!

I’m good with just the straight stairs! I would love the ability to use the cut out as storage with shelves etc.

shelves! shelves! shelves!! I know of *one* under-stair shelf, on TSR, but it has a tendency to pop back into the household inventory whenever you do anything to walls once it's placed... i'd love a less wonky one!

Carla Bazhenow

Yes, built in usable shelves. Solid colors and hopefully an industrial looking one? Love your CC, amazing.

I really love your ideas for it! The wooden beams(?) is something I've definitely been looking for in-game. I think the storage space underneath would be a very nice touch as well. At least the houses I've been to usually has some form of storage in every room and not always in the form of the dressers that are in-game. It would be cool if it were functional as well, but deco works just fine. Also I'm a big fan of the build-in shelves idea! :) I tried the test in-game and it was a biiiit hard to place as it snaps to different heights on the wall. Is it possible to make it only place on ground level? Does that make any sense whatsoever? Also, if I had to be very selective, I'd want to see it for the straight staircase, the high L-shaped and the U-shaped.

I'd be happy with just the straight stairs. Maybe in the future something can be done with the curved stairs but that should be a seperate thing from the straight.

I love the idea of having a doggie or kittie hangout under the stairs. https://images.app.goo.gl/SaX1SqDusoMZhyAi7

Or this https://images.app.goo.gl/JjDAaiSgGt6NBxCq9 maybe with a little doggie window or something. Or maybe an attached shelf on the top or table to add the ability to put stuff on it like a console table.

Hello. This looks amazing, you always excite with your WIP posts. When you say that desks are not possible, if you put a desk underneath of stairs, they will function with pcs, etc. At least they do in my games. It may be height-related? I am unsure.

So I think what my issue was is I was putting a wall around the stairs and a door and then trying to use the space. If it’s just open underneath it seems totally fine! Ur right!

This makes me so happy because I'm trying to build a little cottage based on a real houseplan, and these stairs are perfect! I love all your stuff so much <3

E. A.

Okay, I just built this little cottage--this works GREAT! I love it so much!! No bugs or problems.

ravasheen

oh good you tested out the one i attached?? the cutout on top is till a little weird and needs to fix but im glad you were able to take a look and test it! that is helpful!

I would use the inspo stairs ALL DAY LONGGGGGGG they are so pretty

Anonymous

I'd really like just some nice carpeted stairs or something that matches wood textures and colours

ravasheen

you cant make custom stairs :( i only know one person who did it and it took her 8 months!
