As a kid, Mike Nesmith was my favorite Monkee. I even taped a ball of paper I had colored to my pom-less green knit cap so it would look more like his signature tuque.

I've always sought out interviews and conversations with people I genuinely want to talk to, and Nez was most certainly on that list. He had a reputation for being prickly and walking to the beat of his own drum (he was, for the longest time, the Monkee most likely not to be present in any given reunion tour).

In 2003, I finally got a chance to have a long conversation with him.
