Early Access: Let There Be Peace on Earth (Patreon)

This summer I was re-introduced to Vince Gill's stunning version of this song. I immediately knew it was the cover I wanted to include on A Little Magic. Could there be a song more fitting for the times? This song was a balm for my soul, and I hope it can be the same for you. 

The recording process on this one was unique....

It started out normal, as you saw on the livestream. I recorded it live and without a metronome click. Paul then sent it off to have the strings arranged and recorded along with my track.  When the final was sent back to me I was in SHOCK.

And not in a good way!  

As I listened back, I realized I had sped through this song so fast that the strings sounded like they drank 100 cups of coffee just to keep up!!! We were in quite the predicament because if we were to fix this song, we could not re-record alllll the strings (this track is 2 string players who layered and layered on their parts).

Paul asked me to sit with it. He was confident that I would change my mind and grow to love the upbeat tempo.

My mind never changed. I decided that if it couldn't be fixed, then it wouldn't be included on the album.

You cannot slow down a vocal or guitar recording without it sounding atrocious. BUT I learned that you can slow down a recording of strings and they'll maintain their integrity. SO. Paul spent an entire day slowing down the strings, and manually setting up a metronome track for me to record along to. This was the most painstakingly laborious process for Paul. I'm so grateful he was willing to change it. The message of this song is so powerful and deserves to be delivered properly. 

That's a little story from behind the scenes... Hope you enjoy the song at the newer, more peaceful, yet peppy tempo. :)
