I was invited as a guest on Primary & Secondary, LLC. to discuss “law enforcement, media and perception”.

We get into some pretty intense space and conversation regarding a number of topics, including Shaver, Grossman, Killology and other equally important topics.

I’d like to thank Matt Prime and everyone on the round table for a respectful and introspective conversation about some very difficult issues we face, both as regular citizens and police officers, in the current US of A.

This was by far one of my favorite Modcasts. I'm very happy there was some truly productive conversation around this topic.

Haven't finished yet, and I'm as pedantic as the next guy but dismissing driving an APC through a house because it wasn't literally a tracked tank was cringe. Huge props to Matt for talking about stuff like this though

Anonymous

This is very good. Thanks for being "that guy".

Robert Rowe

They didn't like my comments much. (They being the other dudes discussing the unfairness of how police are treated by media, how statistically speaking, police hardly kill anyone & etc.). They liked my links to related video even less.

“words have meaning” yes and so do APCs being driven into houses

Anonymous

I was disappointed that most members of the panel couldn't agree that when police commit crimes they should be treated the same as everyone else. The us against them mentality fosters the division and reinforces the distrust between us. Maybe they didn't feel free to express an opinion not in line with their employer and brothers in arms.

It's an uncomfortable truth to admit. Not everyone is there yet. It's something some cops never thought or considered.

Chairman

Thanks for bringing the average citizen's voice, Karl.

Michael Baggott

Beyond cringe and I say that as a retired cop. Sure, "words have meaning" but everyone knows what Karl meant when he said "tank."

Juraj

Great debate. Really interesting to see the opinions of the "other side".

Karl, i don't think you were at all confrontation as, i would have gone back at them about how they skirted your questions, playing word games or defending(and rightly so) their professions. As a pro-beehive kicker, you were almost sedate in yoir responses to what you brought up. But, i did learn a few things, and understand the police mentality a bit more than what media gives or releases(good & bad). So thank you for this. I hope that you would do more of these types of discussions and bringing in your point of view.

Guido Schriewer

That one even need to have that discussion is damned scary. In particular stateside. These days a lot of things are.

Good on you for walking into the lions' den.

I don't know where Chuck is at but someone, please buy him a heater!

Right at about 2 hours Chuck hits the nail on the head with mindset. Today’s hiring practices limit hiring a lot of people who have had real life stressful encounters. Outside of hiring a vet now a days, who hasn’t been in trouble, police do not hire the sort of people who have actually been in fights. The do not have the mindset for the job and the training is shit. Enter grossman, he trades on a paper cool guy background, but no real experience, and runs around and blows smoke up people’s asses. Basically, cool by association, “I’m cool (grossman), you hung you with me, your cool”. The only people that buy that shit is admins who ran from the field as fast as they could, because they got no skills and no life experience to fall back on. Another pet peeve, grossman did not invent the term sheepdog. His story used to be he heard that analogy from a Vietnam Vet Marine Major (cool guy). If you read the book Starship Troopers the almost exact analogy is in the book and IIRC since grossman taught at West Point and the book used to be on all the branches reading list, that’s where he stole it from and made it popular. All of yall should read the book, there is way more to it than gratuitous tit shots!

One for Karl, he mentions how LEOs have an “us vs them”. Well, ya, people always split into tribes. Who is sharing your suffering, sharing your risk, coming to your rescue? Not some civilian who throws stone from the safety of their house. Look at how much tribe you get from the Derp group, and that’s from talking shit on a server. Extrapolate that to something as risky as an LEO job can be. The more risk, the more bonding of the tribe. That and look at how stress affects new shooters at you match. The majority of cops shoot less than an amateur shooter.

I was listening to this while on a 10 mile ruck, and at several points I found myself cheering out loud. Several points were articulated by Karl and Cole that I had been thinking/feeling for years, but unable to find adequate words to express. Thank you for standing your ground on these points. Well done!
