The 30-40 Krag had a very short service live with the American military, but became the go-to rifle to sporterize during the great Depression and the Prohibition era. I will be using this sporterized Krag for our "Roaring 20's" division at Woodland Brutality 2024, so let's take a look at the gun, its history and what makes it unique and interesting still.

My grandfather has taken many an elk with an old sporterized 30-40 Krag like this. To this day, it's still his go-to rifle. I still haven't had the pleasure of shooting it, but I did have the fortune of taking my first (and only) deer and elk with a sporterized M1917 which has also been passed down through the family. History is neat.

I guess the terminal velocity was a bigger disadvantage than anything. Must have been quite an arc. It's typical of military commissions that they blamed US casualties on the rifle and cartridge rather than the ability of the enemy soldiers to shoot and that assaults over open ground were poor tactics.
