Twintail Day (ツインテールの日) is a Japanese celebration held annually on February 2, during which manga and anime fans celebrate the signature hairstyle on social media. The double ponytail is an iconic hairstyle in otaku culture due to its frequent appearance in anime, manga, and video game titles. The Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon) franchise is often credited with initially popularizing the hairstyle worn by protagonist Usagi Tsukino in the early 1990s.

Also, double pigtails became an important element in the Japanese idol scene in the 1990-2000s. In December 2011, Japanese fashion designer and photographer and Laugh Valley company president Kan Furuya launched the Japan TwinTail Association. The following month, on February 2, 2012, the Double Pigtails Day holiday was registered at the Japan Anniversary Association.

On February 2, 2012, the Japan TwinTail Association launched its official TwinTail Project Japan website, displaying photos of the hairstyle worn by young models. The launch of the partnership was reported by Japanese online media outlets, as well as the English-language news sites Anime News Network, Kotaku, and Culture Japan. Since 2013, Twitter users have posted selfies and cosplay photos with this hairstyle along with the hashtag #ツインテールの日. Also, many Double Ponytails Day illustrations have been uploaded to Pixiv and Nico Nico Seiga. Meanwhile, professional models and idols have frequently participated in the event by posting celebration-themed photos on Twitter and Instagram.
