Recovery day 1

Well… this is weird. The doctors said that it would help my recovery if I wrote down how I felt so, I guess I’m keeping a journal now.

So, hi, anyone who is reading this. My name is Ellie. I’m 24 and… I just had major surgery. I was just sitting at home one night, watching Netflix with a few friends and then… all I remember was pain. It was a stabbing pain deep in my gut. It felt like I was dying.

Everything else was a bit of a blur. My friends rushed me to the hospital. I was soon on a bed hooked up to all sorts of machines. I could only remember the faint beeps of the heart monitors as the anesthetic made me fade in and out of consciousness.

My friends were there when I woke up. They were so worried about me. The doctor’s tried to explain it to me. Something about blockage in my kidneys, my intestinal tract. My organs weren’t functioning like they should. I asked why, they said it was genetic and they were going to have to keep me here in the hospital for a while, keep me under observation. They said they would explain more in the coming days.

I saw my X-Rays on the wall. They… didn’t look normal. I recognized some of the names of the drugs on my chart, painkillers, anti-inflammatories… and also some drugs that help ease the process of mutation.

I also noticed that many of my doctors were mutants as well. They were referred to as specialists… specialists in what?

I… I’m not going to be human much longer am I?
