Man, compared to scanning people, small inanimate objects are a piece of cake, haha!

So- I've got my more practical big-ol-plants collection coming soon (very excited about that one), but I spent this afternoon scanning/cleaning/optimizing a bunch of succulents, and wanted to share them first. Could work great for a desert/outdoor scene, or just on shelves/desks/markets!

One fun thing about these: they're fairly scaleable, so you can make them pretty big/alien, if you want. That said, I really tried to dial in the minimum number of faces I could get away with, so they probably work better smaller somewhere.

Ah bless now I can put succulents in my 3d house as well as my real house! How often do I have to water these 3d ones?

Thank you so much! How many photos did you have to take of each succulent in order to get good results? It seems like meshroom somtimes freaks out if I give it too man photos. Any advice photoscanning in meshroom? :)

I'm a little reluctant to say, mostly just because there are SO many settings you can dial in so maybe I haven't given things a fair shot, but compared to everything else I've used, RealityCapture seems to be faster/more accurate right off the bat. Unfortunately it's also the only one that costs money (per scan). I still need to try out Agisoft, though, I've been hearing good things!

Oooo- most of these had around 70, give or take? Unfortunately I haven't used meshroom in a second, but one thing I think I've found is it helps if you keep your photographs contiguous, like, don't just shoot random angles, but keep keep every angle close to another angle, and work in a progression like that.

These look sweet man! Can't wait to throw these in the backgrounds of shops and stuff. Your burger video really inspired me to start actually photoscanning stuff but unfortunately I have a MacBook Pro. What's the best photoscanning program for a Mac? I've tried a couple but haven't found a useable one yet haha

off subject from the Succulents(which are fantastic btw) would love to see your your post-render workflow. be it Photoshop or AE. to achieve that almost painterly like style

These are awesome, thanks!! To anyone using them: if you duplicate one, you can really quickly get it to look totally different by going into Sculpt mode, use the Pose brush, up the radius (I've been using around 250px), then subtly move random bits of the mesh around and HEY brand new succulent!

Haha that's not annoying! And yeah! I have some bushes I should upload later this week! Mostly just a foliage wall, but definitely bush-like. :D

Oh man I'd used sculpting to clean the mesh, but hadn't thought at all about using it to randomize it! That's a great tip, thanks :D

Ooo- So from a typical photoscanning perspective, these are already pretty darn light- that said, if you're trying to have a TON of them in a scene, and not get too close... hmmm... so I retopologize them before I create the materials (if you eliminate textured geometry after-the-fact, that throws the UV maps off). I think there are programs that deal with that? I feel like Chromfell would know- I should ask him. That said, in a pinch you can try slapping a "merge by distance" pass over it. It might make the textures a little wonky, but it'd definitely reduce the geometry. Any less than that and you'd probably want to start from scratch, not using a photoscan as a base.

yes, i want to import in unreal engine. i will try to retopology with quad remesh and bake the diffuse in retopo mesh, and to get normal i could use x_normal. i will keep you update.
