Video from.... 18 years ago? Music from 7 years ago, "edited" the other day- a collaboration across time!

Dunno if I'll ever release it (I like the song, but it could use some finishing/EQ), but it's some pretty dense backyard filmmaking nostalgia for me, so maybe some of you'll get a kick out of it too :P.

This is awesome

Hahaha! yessss, that's a change for the final (if there is a final)- I have an ending credit screen that has everybody's names in it, but since this was like 18 years ago it's requiring some research to see what everyone's names are currently! I remember when I was a kid I figured we'd all just be hanging out forever, but I probably haven't seen anybody in this video in nearly 10 years.

I love time travel!

You did that video 18 years ago!!?? I cant even do that now!

I love all the space stuff, seeing young Ian and the song! Not sure about the kids with giant guns (it doesn't gel 100% with the nostalgic/romantic music and the cute DIY space atmosphere overall) but I imagine it was just after The Matrix, must have been hard to resist ;-) I certainly have made stuff like this myself. I remember thinking the same - we'll just be doing this stuff forever right? And no worries about safety or permits - we once filmed a "ninja" sword fight right in front of a police station (because it looked like a cool location) and another time I fired a blank (from a real gun!!) just in a park, outside. Don't worry: i was very responsible - I saw an old lady walking by so I ran to her (gun in hand) and explained to her not to worry, we're gonna do some gun shootin' but it's for a movie. She was like "yeah, whatever..." and walked on. Good times.

Ian how old were you when you made Tears of Steal??

IanHubert

Hahahaha! Yeah, two guys that are in most of this were only in it if they could be in fight scenes, so we centered the script around giving them chances to suit up and be awesome (and we were all100% trying to be The Matrix- it was ridiculous). They joined the Marines like a year later. But yeah, we ended up running around with fake desert eagles behind grocery stories a wholly inappropriate number of times, with the cops swinging by most of them, hahaha :P Also oh man, if you still have access to that ninja sword fight, I would so love to see it.

I have a 30-minute cut somewhere, it's completely insane. We would just find some friends to beat up on film in the weekend, all improvised (no script). A friend of mine was a trolley car driver (in real life) so one of the characters is a hitman who dresses as a trolley car driver who can throw the trolley cards like weapons. I'll see if I can dig it up. I had just done some choreography on a movie, so I figured I knew everything. This was just after film school, so I actually knew nothing.

Great song! Worth a release!

A through and through creative on so many levels, brilliant. I see some train influence here in the spaceship, very nice. I like the big freight switcher type look on trains, love the music, analogue mini-moog'y vibe. Clear how Ian is so good at this coming from so many years of devotion to his art. This works, there's a whole other youtube channel here if he wanted. I think I speak for us all by saying man what we'd do to just spend a day with you! Your skills are in need, hey and all I want to do is show off to my friends that think I'm lame at social networking. Yeh take that friends and family, me walking into my living room with a Lightsaber. No one expected it! Make me good Ian.
