Charge Up Front Change (Patreon)

First of all, thanks for all the support you've given me since I started this Patreon last fall! Originally it was just an experiment, but it's been going really well. One of my goals for 2017 is to focus more on Patreon-early or Patreon-exclusive content for you guys.

This note is to let everyone know that I've changed my Patreon to their Charge-Up-Front model. It shouldn't affect anyone reading this; you'll be charged as normal. But it does mean that new Patreons who sign up will be charged immediately, rather than waiting for the next monthly cycle.

I'm doing this, in short, to try and cut down on fraud. One of Patreon's biggest flaws, in my opinion, is not charging up front by default. Since I've started here, I've pretty consistently had about 30% of my Patreons be "fake". That is they sign up and pledge, presumably see what they want to see, and cancel before the next billing cycle. As an example, for December I had over $300 in pledges, but only made $250 in real pledges that actually cleared.

Patreon has been rolling out this method of charging, so it was unavailable to me until just recently. Now that I can do it, I'm making the switch as well.
