New Amsterdam Pete Campbell oversteps the mark when he pitches an idea for ad campaign to the head of Bethlehem Steel without telling Don Draper. Draper wants him fired but learns a lesson in corporate politics. Pete's wife wants to buy a Manhattan apartment but he has to approach his cold and distant parents for a loan.

This episode has a bit of a connection to something else you’ve seen. In season 2 of The Wire all those abandoned buildings you saw in the background was Bethlehem Steel and the union Frank Sobatka ran was originally doing the shipping for Bethlehem. For most of the 20th century they were the go to for steel on the East Coast of the US but during the 60s other companies especially overseas started providing steel so they now had to compete (hence the advertising) and by the 80s they had lost the competition putting 1000s of people out of work and damaging multiple East Coast cities.

You will see plenty of Glen the weird neighbor kid because the creator of the show cast his own son in the role. I don’t know if they couldn’t find a kid that could do it or if he thought it would make his son famous, but I always thought it was an odd choice for a father to make.
