The half-man half-beast is the guy from the first episode who had the severed bull's head put on him in Delphine LaLaurie's attic, and Marie Laveau gave him the same immortality potion that she gave to Delphine LaLaurie. He was also Marie Laveau's love interest, which is why Marie did what she did to Delphine. As for the Cordelia/Cordelia's husband shag scene...it was a fertility ritual. Early in the episode they were discussing the use of magic to assist in conception, but Cordelia warned husband guy that it was dark magic, hence the snakes and such. Oh, and the rivalry between Fiona and Marie is less about race and more about witchcraft versus voodoo.
