There's no real reason to disbelieve what HAP says about what he understands to have happened - anybody in the circle has a chance to leave, and Homer must have been in the circle else none of them would have gone. The truth is OA chased Homer, not HAP or any of the others as she says. A lot of it you're supposed to be confused about. The ending is a bit of a kick in the teeth though, you should maybe be able to figure it out if you've been paying attention - you know the players, running through who you're seeing and what was said would tell you - maybe you're not supposed to have made the connection but they've given you all the tools you need to do so, put it that way. IIRC it is spelled out in short order though..
