I agree with Adama on this one, gotta do more before you abandon your own, or anyone. He was doing it with "risk" and beyond "military needs", but using that when talking to experienced military leader for pointing out at his "mistake" for staying human, IS a mistake: have to be professional and stay human = BALANCE. He wasn't putting anyone in direct/immediate danger, wasn't leading them to a battle, or refusing to withdraw from one.
