It's both my man. She does blue flame most of the time if I paid attention in chemistry blue burns hotter than orange flame so it just shows how advanced she is above the regular fire peeps that hers is that intense. Also she learned the special art lightning bending when she focuses the heat and shoots it out by putting her two fingers together. Remember in the early S2 episode she did it and iroh redirected it.

She uses both. Lightning bending is indeed a thing, but Azula also has blue fire. Most of the time she uses the blue fire. you can tell when she uses lightning because it looks a little different and sounds a little different

Ok, so she can do BOTH blue flames, and Lightning. The blue flames are what she uses MOST of the time. The lightning is far more advanced. Like Iroh said. After the lightning is created you are simply aiming it. You have no control. That is why Azura doesn’t use it all of the time. She also requires a bit of time go through the motion if she wants to use lighting, although the lighting is more deadly.

She uses both. blue flames are probably hotter, so it's suppose to show how much more of an expert she is compared to everyone. Lightning is slightly different from how they bend fire. Something about gathering electricity in the air or something.

To add on and simplify what other people said on here: If you see her do a little "dance" move before she throws an element, it's probably lightning cuz it takes a second to create (also the show creators make it a big deal when she does it cuz it's a bit of a trump card on the show). If she does something very quickly it's probably blue fire (which is unique to her cuz of how intense she makes it)

She is a prodigy and can fire bend greater than most men. Blue flames are the hottest so it is to signify that she has seriously hot flames, but as a master at a young age she has the ability to produce lightning which only masterful fire benders can create like Uncle Iroh.

Lightning bending is a specialized version of firebending. Azula is a prodigy. As we all know, the blue portion of the flame is the hottest part of the flame. She's essentially the strongest firebender there is, though Iroh is more skilled. Iroh's skill and knowledge make him better than her but if she aquired that same skill and knowledge, she'd be the best.
