Some of you are probably scratching your heads and wondering who Yun Peng is. I can’t blame you. Yun Peng is Yun Han’s dad, a character from the Eastern Port City saga and the first Renegade Realm cultivator introduced in the story. All things considered, he’s a fairly minor character.

And yet. I’ll still see people discussing his circumstances every now and then, so I thought I’d shed some light into them.

Where did Yun Peng come from?

There is really nothing special about his origins. Yun Peng was the son of the leader of the Yun Sect and eventually assumed that mantle. He was a contemporary of Xiao Zheng. You can even say Yun Peng’s relationship with Xiao Zheng mirrored Yun Han’s relationship with Xiao Fang.

Yun Han’s narration once mentions people telling him his dad used to be a good and wise person before entering the Renegade Realm? Is that true?

Eh.

I mean, he wasn’t a bad person, but you usually don’t rise to leadership of a Sect by collecting good boy stickers. That said, had Yun Peng not been a Renegade, he would have been a way better dad.

Like, wayyyy better.

What happened to Yun Peng?

Short version, he entered the Renegade Realm.

Long version, I have already mentioned that Yun Peng’s relationship with Xiao Zheng was a bit like the relationship between Yun Han and Xiao Fang. Yun Peng was someone who was always one step behind Xiao Zheng, and for the most part, while not happy about it, Yun Peng could live with that.

The problem began when Xiao Zheng started getting too far ahead of him. Not just one step, but two and three and four. When Xiao Zheng entered the Renegade Realm, Yun Peng panicked.

He thought long and hard about what to do, but ultimately, he decided to go for it and rush his development.

You all know what happens next. Xiao Zheng made it out of the Renegade Realm. Yun Peng didn’t.

Would Yun Han’s dad have reached the Emperor Realm he had been given more time?

It’s complicated.

If Yun Peng had left Eastern Port City, he would have managed to reach the Emperor Realm (not that he was aware of this). He never considered doing that because he knew his presence acted as a deterrent for the Xiao Sect. He was too scared of what could happen if he left. That ended up making things worse for him.

The more he stayed in Eastern Port City, the more he focused on his losing feud with the Xiao Sect, and the worse his condition became.

So yes, Yun Peng could have reached the Emperor Realm, but it is unlikely he would have unless something big happened to change his mind.

Is the Yun Sect still a thing?

Yes. Much like the Xiao Sect, the Yun Sect had more branches than the Eastern Port City one. That said, their only Emperor and other important members lived in Eastern Port City, so they are very diminished now.

Will it be relevant again?

Not really. Their role in the story is done. At the most, they might get a minor mention.
