I want to thank you all for all your well-wishes. My mom's surgery is tomorrow, and if that surprises you, trust me, we were even more surprised. At least, it gave us more time to prepare for everything. 

It also led to a lot of this:

Mom: Surely I can do this totally non-strenuous thing.

Me: No, that's absolutely the type of strenuous thing that made you need surgery and high-powered pain-killers. 

Rinse and Repeat. The experience has been deeply ironic for us.
