Writing Blog - New Moon Town (Patreon)

 I keep wanting to write this blog post but always forget to do it.

Out of all the arcs in Ave Xia Rem Y, New Moon Town is the one that saw the biggest change between the outline stage and the finished product. There were lots of little details that I ended up changing once I sat down and started writing everything.

For example, Xiao Heng and Xiao Dong are characters that changed quite a bit from what they were initially conceived to be. This holds especially true for Xiao Dong. In the beginning, he was just going to be a regular jerk. Just a guy that’s mean to everyone and then gets killed. However, I ended up deciding against this.

Since Xiao Dong was going to die, I thought to myself, “If I kill him after he’s been an ass to everyone, the readers are just going to say ‘good riddance’ or something.” That’s why I decided to show a softer side of Xiao Dong before he died. 

Hu Meili was also a character that was going to be more antagonistic during the planning stages. She was initially conceived as a self-serving character that played around with Lun Kai and then switched to Xiao Dong when it suited her. Her relationship with Lun Kai (and Lun Kai’s entire character) would have been expanded on in this version.

However, she ended up becoming a softer character once the time to write the story actually came. Rather than playing around, Hu Meili is someone who is doing what she can out of a sense of duty to her clan. She ended up being more selfless than planned. 

I’m kind of sad I didn’t get to expand on Lun Kai. He’s a character who’s kind of just there even though he’s the son of the main antagonist of the arc. 

To write this post, I had to go back and look for his name! That’s how little he ended up standing out!  Oh well, live and learn.

By the way, Xiao Heng and Hu Meili will return in the future. Although I guess it should be Xiao Meili now.
