Edit: Re-uploaded the image with less of the graffiti art in the background.

So this week was spent on designing and fine tuning the character selection screen. Not quite there yet but getting closer. I want to include the playful personality and art of the animated series into this interface... but this could be too busy with the graffiti in the backdrop. At the same time, I kind of like the chaotic feel.  What do you guys think?

An artistic flourish can definitely elevate a menu, but above all else the menu has to be functional and easy to read. The menu you designed is nice looking, but it's a little cluttered. Like the skull and face with X's for eyes almost seem like they should be option or somehow indicative of stats. And I'm not sure what the angry yellow face in the upper left corner is meant to convey. I like having part of the border cracked and broken up and the alien looking symbol in the bottom middle.

Agreed, the menu should be clear and easy to navigate. My first attempt was overly simple and bland but now I've gone overboard. I think the backdrop faces might not need to be there. The angry face is just decor as well and doesn't need to be there. I'll play with this more and upload another character with the interface changes.

remember if the user has to ask what the UI is about.. that makes the UI pointless. But it does look cool those.

Agreed, finding that balance is key. But I find it's better to go too far and then to pull back than to put too little and figure out what to add.

I like the look that it has atm, seems to be pretty easy to understand. My only real question is, this screen is it only character info, or will you also do character upgrades on this screen?

That's something I have to discuss with Adam. We want to keep the game mechanics on this first round simple. So as of now, you'll collect characters with preset stats. I'm thinking we should be able to do simple rank up version of the same character with a upgraded skin and higher stats though.

I loved Chaotic as a kid! It looks awesome! You should keep it like that as a reference to Chaotic. Considering that, after all, that you even mentioned Chaotic at all, I'd assume that you also grew up with it and loved it as a kid. I love that Chaotic feel. It's amazing. 10/10!

This looks awesome! i have a question though, seeing this screen i wonder, will be there "alternate costumes" for some characters? i just saw a "change preset" on my mind there~ ;)

There maybe something along those lines. I don't want to get too ahead of myself though. I want to stay in line with what Adam has currently in the works. We can expand from there.

I like it! feels smooth and it fits pretty well in my opinion. I know nothing of menu design myself but I think the little devils on the arrows are adorable.

Nice hub for the character description, art, and stats. Really clean and easy to follow. You're really making progress in the best of ways. I can't wait to play this fucking game, man! Question though...will there be an alignment on the character's hub or faction they belong to (or both)? Just an example, Miltonius being aligned Neutral and his faction with his master.

I would love to add all those features and details. It's too early to say right now though. The goal is to stay as simple in the gameplay as possible for this first pass. But as we progress who knows what extra features can be added easily without complicating development. Yeah I'm excited to get a working demo of this game going so we can start seeing what's possible. 😁
