Back by popular demand, we have Neil Vermillion again today. We're talking about his experiences while volunteering as a trainer for troops in Ukraine. We're going to discuss why the Russians underperformed so badly, what the Ukrainians are doing well to adapt and improve, and perhaps why he has a somewhat scorched Wagner patch on his wall...

Talking about small arms and war in a historical context is always fascinating and somewhat whimsical. In real time it seem controversial and a little sickening when you know the bloodshed is ongoing.

One of the biggest mass killers of Russians in Ukraine are cell phones. Western technology is involved here. If a Russian soldier phoned home an air asset of the US, the UK, or a spy satellite would have his location in minutes. Intercepted phone calls from Russian calling home to their wives and mothers cautioned not to talk long because within 30 minutes there would be a artillery strike on their position. In one situation soldiers phoning home on Christmas in a barracks setting were hit by HiMAR missiles killing over 300.

Love this interview, especially the “special landing operation” note, hadn’t heard that before. My cousin is fighting in Ukraine now so I love hearing as many perspectives on the war as I (reasonably) can.

about the BP things I think it makes a hell of a lot more sense to do BP in a battle rifle "class". keep reasonably long barrels better balance get it shorter than with 556 545s. just learned the brits want to retire the sa80 more and more? last "big" user with bullpups ... leaves israel with the layout more or less. australia? kiwis went ar allready.- dirty game played real dirty, huh. nature of that war. could think it would be something cold war commie... does one has to say soviet again allready? sad.

how tall is Neil anyways? looks kind of on the heavier side. like massive.

Supporting Ukraine in destroying the Russian Army is pennies on the dollar bargain. Soen folks think we should be securing the southwest border INSTEAD of supporting Ukraine. But there is nothing preventing us from doing both. The current administration doesn't WANT to secure the southwest border. There is no resource conflict...

It appears that the Russians think there is nothing wrong with Soviet military TTPs... Unfortunately for Russians, that isn't true and they aren't going to develop an NCO corp overnight, so at this point we see captains and majors acting as we would expect corporals and Sergeants...

The Russian army is not being destroyed. They are replacing losses and Ukraine cannot win a war of attrition against them without it being a tremendous cost of lives. The counter offensive has barely moved the front lines and there are multiple other defensive lines. Winning will be at an abhorrent cost of Ukrainian and Russian lives.

Fascinating interview I wish all the best to volunteers like Neil, ignore the influx of pro Putin shilling, his army is fielding T-55s now and has had a single real victory in a year. Anyone claiming the Russian military or industry is unbeatable is either a shill or deluded.

The reason(s) that Russia uses a top down structure are many and varied, but it is, historically, very difficult to have a 'bottom up' military force when you have a 'top down' society. Put guns in the hands of people, tell them to figure out how to solve the problem, and there is no telling how far they'll go solving.

jalal sinjer is our local Russian Wu Mao... Claims that Russia under sanctions outproduces all of NATO and NATO doesn't know how to fight??? NATO hasn't sent 250,000 men to their deaths for nothing...

Yes exactly, centralized authority works as well in combat as it does in society :) So many dead flag officers. It is shocking. No NCOs, so captains and majors are platoon leaders? and Colonels are in the front directing relatively small units in combat. Senior officers take decades of experience to season. The Russian Army is suffering human losses that will take decades to recover from. and given that they are pulling T-55s from storage, thats 70 years worth of gear on the battlefield for Russia... Russia is being starved by the Putin dictatorship, so Russia no longer has resources available like the USSR did, it will not be able to replace the hardware. T-14 is a joke. Where is T-14? DOesn't want to be embarrassed on the battlefield and face ZERO sales???
