I've been having a lot of fun in recent months doing expansion and TF work in old toon styles. And, I think had some success at it, too!

It's.. just fun. Maybe it's a little nostalgic for an episode that never existed anywhere but in your head, maybe it's because it's transgressive, bringing characters into kink that was originally earmarked for us when we were kids. I don't know.

What I do know is I think I'm going to take that into February. The new comics I'm doing are really time intensive, but the toon stuff goes much quicker (less shading, usually :) ) so I'm going to be shifting focus on Wednesdays to Toon Expansions and TFs.

In the comments below, please let me know your favorite traditional toons from your youth (or now). You should comment only on shows with simple designs, with adult characters (they need to be coded adult). Lastly, sorry folks, no anime. It's not that I'm against it, but I spend too much time getting the style right, which is defeating the purpose of the promotion.)

Great examples would be shows on Cartoon Network, The various Disney Channels, Kids WB, etc. And remember, I'm going to be doing them in the style of the show, so don't list characters without the show they're on (Wonder Woman has been done in myriad styles, some that aren't eligible. But Super Friends from the 80's? Maybe... :) )

No poll on this one, I'm going to be hand picking. A lot of it has to do with what I can find for animation background art online. These characters need to stand on something. :)

Okay. List shows below. I'm not sure if you can put live links in the comments (probably not) but feel free to place a link after listing the character, the show, and why you love them! (I'll copy paste the link if nothing else).

There'll be a channel on Discord as well, if you'd like to post there.

Thanks! Happy Tuesday, here's to a great February!

Hmmm... Well, I'm 57, so I'm kind of old school. Scooby Doo has been done a lot, but maybe something like: Archie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Josie and the Pussycats (all part of one big universe, it seems) - with Sabrina especially, you can do just about anything with these characters (and they have, over the decades) Flintstones and Jetsons- with Great Gazoo on the one and weird future science on the other, there's plenty of opportunities there

I mean, I'm 46, so most of that Dan DeCarlo designed stuff was kicking around when I was a kid, too. Might not be -as- popular with the kids, but who knows? Riverdale was a thing for a hot minute. Not technically adults, (Sabrina is a no go ; Hilda and Zelda maybe, but the comic versions aren't super sexy . Josie I think is...) Though, neither are the Scooby gang. Might give it a pass. Great suggestion.

I grew up in the UK during the 90's, so I was exposed to mostly American animated shows whilst growing up. I only recently rediscovered "The Raccoons", a Canadian animated series, which I used to watch frequently. When it comes to British Animation, our biggest contribution has to be in Stop Motion Animation, or Claymation if you prefer. "Postman Pat", "Camberwick Green", "Morph" and "The Treacle People" were all shows that I watched religiously growing up, either on TV or VHS. But, the animation style that has probably dominated British Culture has to be Aardman and their "Wallace and Gromit" series. The big mouths full of teeth and the plasticine aesthetic have all become iconic, whether it is "Wallace and Gromit" or "Creature Comforts" or even "Chicken Run" that you're watching. These are probably the best examples of British Animation that I can think of. Of course I could probably also list the works of Gerry Anderson and/or Cosgrove Hall in their production of Children's entertainment. If you want to look up a classic British series theme tune, I strongly recommend "Roobarb and Custard", that's a true classic from my childhood.

If I never do anything in the styles you suggest, know that I always love hearing about the British toons. :) We had Duckula and Dangermouse on Nickelodeon back before Nicktoons was a thing. Always like Penfold. Especially the episode he got super powers.

Seritaph

Hm. Perhaps something out of Tex Avery's efforts. I recall his take on "Red Hot Riding Hood" being rather stylistically iconic.

a few ones I recall being some of my first faves 1. Miriam Pataki, Dr. Bliss and that future version of Lila from Helga's dream from Hey Arnold 2. Charlotte Pickles from the Rugrats 3. Shego from Kim Possible

I have no knowledge of Hey Arnold. I could get into the Pickles ladies. And Shego? Yus.
