What the hell does TF even mean?

A few weeks ago, I posted a poll whether you all liked Expansion or Transformation, and man that was an unfair poll! Yeah, Transformation won (60/40) but what even -is- transformation? Is it TG? Bimbofication? Inanimate transformation? Furry? Body Swap? Expansion?

There’s so much crammed into the two letters “TF” that I think you would be hard pressed to find any one artist in the community that touches every facet of that genre. We have to spell it out to people! How often do you see right next to prices on a commission card the lists of “Will do’s” and “Won’t do’s”?

It’s an almost meaningless term. The only thing it means is a “someone” is a “not that someone” anymore.

So, back to crowds and following them: Jess Star wrote a great twitter thread on this that when you have such a diverse genre, you’re going to split the attention of your crowd. People may or may not have liked the Dress TF I did last Monday (I love it) but to others it’s creepy, leaving a little more toward the horror side of TF. I could have made Jerry look like he was enjoying himself, went another way with it. Not really my point. The point is: how many people that answered “TF” over “Expansion” would look at that piece and say, “Yes! That’s what I meant when I voted for TF!” My bet is the majority of you all are in the, “Eh… not my thing. Maybe next time?” I know I do that.

I would double down on that bet: when you finally see that piece that scratches that itch: when I finally do that flattening pic you were hoping for, or a blueberry girl with juice gushing out of her, or a lawn flamingo who was just a bit to lippy to her witch neighbor… your fellow Patrons will shrug and say, “Maybe next time”.

Ugh, sorry, I’m rambling and it feels like it’s complaining. But I'm not!

 It’s interesting!

So I open it up to you all downstairs, (and this time, I’ll try to be more responsive to your comments). You can go into as much detail as you are comfortable with, but when you watch a TF artist like me (and others), do you find yourself waiting patiently for your kink to swing around? Are the other TFs you see something you hate, tolerate, or maybe enjoy for the novelty (people are into that?)

Comment down below!

(PS) Also, a poll! This one is less for me and more for you guys! Check all the kinds of TFs you like to see me do. If you check other, you gotta comment! No excuses! At a minimum, you need to put a “Maybe next time” down there. :)

Like I said in my last comment, I'm more of an expansion guy then a TF, but you're right, there's so many types of TF just as much as there is for expansion. My personal favorites for TF are Infallible pool toy TF, Beach Ball TF, couch TF, Melting, Pancake flattening, Dessert TF's, funny animal TF's ( That one works best if the animal TF is the opposite of the who the character is. Example, a calm and timid Hinata turns into a giant T-Rex). I think what I look for in a TF is something that is the opposite of what the person that's transforming into. A woman who cherishes her slim figure is turned into fat ice cream sundae. A character that's super buff and tuff is turned into a soft inflatable pool toy. Stuff like that is what I love!

Phoinix102

I won't lie, I do find myself "waiting for my kink to roll around." There are definitely benefits and drawbacks from having such a diverse repertoire. I'm guessing your audience is larger than if you stuck with one thing (unless that one thing was super popular). But on the flip side, because you have limited time to draw this kind of work, each group probably has to wait longer for art they like. There are definitely some things on this list that I would pass on, but I would rather stay positive instead of dipping into some negativity (there's too much of that in the real world already). What attracts me to transformations is that they allow me to experience the impossible. Sure, I guess Breast Expansion technically exists in IRL, but it's not as easy as a click of a button or a utterance of a spell. Plus, some of these transformations probably would fall under the uncanny valley if they were translated into real life (as much as I love monster girls, I can admit they probably would fall into this category). Basically, just a weird way to explore the world of imagination. I think another thing that's important is not only how somebody is being transformed, but also WHO is being transformed. If it is a character who I don't know anything about or don't care about, applying a transformation I do like might not peak my interest.

Chris Fabinsky

I’ll throw robot/gynoid transformation in the mix.

DezzieArts

I'm pretty open to any type of transformation. The only subject I shy away from is forced transformations that the recipient sincerely does not want and/or the transformer has ill intent to abuse. Forced TFs that are for comedic effect or light-hearted fun are usually fine though.

Seritaph

Askin' the tough questions I see!

I was in the expansion camp on the last one, but still that's in different categories. I don't much care for weight gain, muscle, or blueberry, but hourglass & BE are gold. Then on the TF side, there's some that I like such as Fusions or stuff like were TFs. Bimbofication & Gender Benders are nice too. Then there's the attitude behind things like you pointed out. I'm already not too interested in flattening or clothing TF, but making it so that the one being TF'd likes what's happening can help greatly imo. Another poll on Forced vs Willing changes could shed some more light on opinions. There is a third option where the person deserves what's coming to them as well.

I'm looking down to Phoinix102's comment on wanting to know who the character is; I really vibe of your observation of transforming a character in an opposite or ironic form to their personality. There's a lot to mine there.

gnomeoo

Having that connection to the character is really important, I think. In comics, you can have a thought balloon, a caption, etc, that lets you get inside the character's head a bit, but having an investment in the character's personality really increases the stakes in the scene. A TF -happens- to someone. The fun is how it teases out the story in your head. And knowing the character is key to enjoying the story. Great observation.

gnomeoo

I can't believe I got this far in life not knowing the scifi term for fembot until now!

gnomeoo

I try to do that, too, but I sometimes like to dabble with power play. The more "helpless" TFs I like to think eventually will get undone. Like Wile E. Coyote, back to normal the next scene.

gnomeoo

It was an unfair question: expansion -is- TF. :) I think we've got the same tastes for expansion, but I like to stretch my skills sometimes and do work maybe I wouldn't normally do if I think there's some want for it. I think I walk a like between "this character likes it" and "this character hates it". In my stories, I like power play and TFs that are about some jerk getting comeuppance. I also think the "oh no, this got out of hand quickly" TFs are a lot of fun. There's so much play in "forced", especially when it may be more of an annoyance for the TF'd character than something truly bad happening to them. That being said, I'm not against a horror scene for TF, either, particularly in kink lit. Combine that with a "deserves what's coming to them" and you can get some potent stories.

ZekeStaright

A deserves what's coming to them for a down trodden could be good too. Flat nerdy girl gets picked on and instead of the busty bully getting messed with, the nerd gets better assets. Or a 2fer! Nerd gets the bully's assets o(>w<)d

Mutagenica

I propose a Cartoonification Tf

Seritaph

I never really talk about my specific interests with TF, to be honest. Being mocked for it in various communities back in the day can make one a bit gunshy. Hell, I started out writing TF stories. That ended... poorly.

DrewB

What can I say, I dig your stuff! But my personal "like" would be shrinking w/BE.

gnomeoo

Did a lot of that this summer! I'm sure it'll be back again, though.

Sean M. Dunstan

I have the problem that some of my TF kinks don't really have formal "names". I like people being made elastic/rubbery and treated as such, but I also like what's been termed "goombafication" where someone is squashed into a head with socked feet.

gnomeoo

Rubberized / stretchy; I'm not sure if the head squash tf has a name either, but I'm aware it's a thing, too!

Omgicanthinkofaname

I'm here for the inanimate TF's, and my subscription changes based on if you're doing a ton of expansion or toon stuff versus inanimate pieces. But that's what I do for all my patreon subs, like I'm on and off again for TrailBlazer's patreon. I always appreciate the quality of your work and it's totally fine when you're focusing on the myriad of other TF genres. Inanimate stuff is just what I enjoy. I do understand that stuff like clothing and object TF's are one of the smallest niches for this fetish area. So you, TrailBlazer, ImmortalTom, etc all make way more art for other genres. I'm fine waiting for my genre's "turn" in the wheelhouse of art. Especially when the polls come around and inanimate options tend to get way lower votes than the other choices.
