ngl, this was also my first gundam anime and the prologue got me hooked

Kind of late since this was recorded when the Fall season started, but I wanted to answer the whole "is any Gundam series connected" question. The TLDR is the chat is wrong, but it doesn't really matter unless you really want to jump into the Gundam rabbit hole like me lol. Witch from Mercury isn't connected to anything (most of the terminology, lore, and concepts are new, though there are some concepts that are borrowed from other Gundam shows/media) and is considered an AU (Alternate Universe) story in the Gundam franchise. So they are right at least that you can watch this with no prior knowledge. There is a "main" Gundam universe though called the Universal Century (UC), which alot of Gundams shows take place in (for example, there is the Gundam Hathaway movie on Netflix that's really good, but takes place near the end of the timline so I def don't watching that first). However, it seems that the Studio that makes Gundam, Sunrise, no longer makes mainline stuff as TV anime anymore and makes UC stuff as OVAs or films since that stuff is more for hardcore fans. So, you probably don't need to worry about continuity in Gundam if you only want to check Gundam shows that are new, it's just more of an issue if you want to check out older stuff.
