It's better just to use wiki on Bastion (if u want) as he never made an appearance in 92, but was HUGE in the comics. It explains ozt and their significance. Or like u said go in blind. :)

Tbh, apart from nostalgia the old series really isn't that great, so I've been shocked by how good 97 is.
