A couple things! This season does get into their backstories. But! It's spread out through the comedy arcs, before it gets into the full serious arcs. This arc has a bit of the backstory for the whole group. 279-281 is a serious arc that intertwines with Gintoki's backstory. 290-291 is a Sakamoto backstory arc. 293 is Kondo backstory, 300-328 is nonstop story and action. Trust me! The wait will be worth it.

so glad we can't get downvoted on here but damn i wish i could get into gintama. i truly do. i just generally dont watch anime for the comedy so a show whose foundation is literally that is just difficult for me.
