The rough part about Gabi that I think a lot of fans ignore is that she isn’t all that different from Eren, in fact she was intentionally created to basically be the female Eren. How she felt at the beginning of the season with her blind rage and hate mirrored Eren for the majority of the series. Eren and Gabi are 2 versions of the same thing from opposing sides and that’s such a cool parallel I think.

Man, even though DS has been heat for the past couple weeks (and next of course), only AoT can make me have the same energy as Terrence at the end there lmao 😂 Side note, I’m honestly impressed how much the CGI has improved compared to part 1, it genuinely looks tangibly better. Also those hand drawn animation cuts that Mappa likes to throw in the mix during action scenes are *chef’s kiss.* They really stood out in a good way this episode.

Honestly yeah. I think it’s easy to forget how similar they are cause we’ve spent 4 seasons with Eren watching him slowly learn and evolve into who he is now, it’s been since like season 1 or even 2 since we last saw like that side of him. Whereas Gabi we’ve only seen for half a season. But in its own way I think that works to Gaby’s benefit as she was able to understand the things around her and learn more about the truth in a shorter span than Eren since all this stuff is going on around her ya know. In a way it helps her character more and will help her go down potentially a better path than Eren did.

Yes, she was an attempt to show two sides of the same coin and a version of Eren on the other side of the war. But, it's hard for us to sympathize with Marley since even the oppressed people in the country are racist fuckers (who've been thought to hate the devils, I know) and the entire country has been brutally fucking up the main characters and their people for hundreds of years. Meaning letting innocent people who knew nothing of the war be eaten by Titans. So yeah, the point you were making about Gabi does stand. She isn’t all that different from Eren and was intentionally created like that, but was poorly executed and it's not just the not enough time or wrong side bit either. I won't get in a heated argument on all the reasons why, but a simple example is that in her introduction all she did was suck her own di** over how great and talented, how much of a good soldier, how better she is than the other candidates. Granted, she has skill, but the first episode was enough for me to instantly dislike her. On the other hand, I instantly liked and sympathized with Falco. At least, that's my and my friends' opinion on the matter.

oh yeah you’re definitely right. Personally I hated her at first, but I do like that on this short time she’s been around she was able to shake off her upbringing and change her perspective upon getting an up close and personal look at the people her country called the “enemy”. Its interesting how these 2 similar people are going down different routes. My perspective of her has changed (especially after reading the manga) but yeah her arrogant and ignorant past isn’t a good one, and Falco is still such a sympathetic character like poor dude is just trying to do his best in this fucked up world. In any case please don’t worry about a heated argument with me I’m not that kind of person lol if anything I think this is an interesting discussion on character developments, I appreciate yalls opinion especially since you’re not wrong ya know. Perspective is a tricky thing but as long as nobody is a jerk about it I don’t think it’s so bad ya know.

She's actually not LITERALLY Eren, otherwise her name would not be Gabi and she'd be male, and able to transform into a Titan. Only Eren is literally Eren at any given point. We also have only known Gabi for half a season. We followed Eren's development as a character for three whole seasons. We've had three whole seasons to get invested in him one way or another. Gabi is a tiny cockroach we just met. But I am glad she's FINALLY understanding shit.

You're severely diminishing Eren's character. Both of them, really. But especially Eren's. You're missing a lot of things. Gabi and Eren are both angry (This is the comparison I see everyone making). That's about where the similarities stop. Do you know/remember WHY they're so angry? Did you watch last season? You should rewatch it. Maybe season one as well.

No I don't think I am. I maybe summarizing it to a fine simple point, but the author clearly made this intentional. Both characters start off as bright eyed idiots filled with simple black and white ideologies. "Friends I know, good. Enemies are everyone outside of friends". Both experience trauma at the hands of the other side, Eren loses his mother to a titan, Gabi loses almost everyone she knows to Eren as a titan. Both vow to wipe out the other side based on their trauma. Eren begins to mature and starts to come into character around the end of the last season (looking out to sea). Gabi begins to mature and realizes the people of Paradise aren't devils, they're people. This is where they aren't the same anymore and why I'm only comparing them as season 1 Eren. Eren is dead set on giving in to his hatred. He even lived with Marleyans and knows they're people too and decided none of that matters he's still gonna kill every one of them, innocent or not. And Gabi is learning this is all people vs people and ultimately pointless. So season 1 Eren, Brat. Gabi pre-Paradise, Brat. And now final season Eren, Brooding Brat. Post-Paradise Gabi, Maturing.
