Just Another Josh

My favorite thing about this entire series is how there's always three different sides fighting each other, yet those sides keep swapping people around. At first it was Sugimoto's group, the 7th, and Hijikata going against each other. Then Sugimoto and Hijikata joined up, right in time for a new third enemy to appear at the prison. Then we eliminate the prison threat and instantly have a betrayal that once again puts us back at three factions, this time being the traitors, Sugimoto and the 7th, and Hijikata. The series always makes sure that every single conflict has three sides and this makes everything so much more chaotic. Plus we see just how easily all of these characters are willing to swap sides, with pretty much every single character having swapped sides at least once. Consider the fact that Tanigaki was a traitor of the 7th, joined his make-believe family, then joined Sugimoto, and is now going right back to working with the 7th alongside Sugimoto. The constant addition of new enemies never stops and there's always more than one threat, but we also take advantage of all these alliance swaps to get to know everyone better. Despite Sugimoto and Asirpa being the good guys we've actually spent nearly as much time on Hijikata and Tsurumi. On top of that, everyone's goals are inherently selfish and they're all aiming for the gold for reasons they believe are truly just. While some are absolute physco's, the goals of every group so far have made sense.

Yeah, reminds me a lot of Dorohedoro (or Dorohedoro reminds me of this) where you have two different sides, neither is inherently "bad" but they all have their own goals that they want to accomplish. Well, you could argue Hijikata's group is bad, as they will kill anyone who gets in their way, same with Tsurumi's group.
