You guys are right. Basically Eva 1.0 is a recap of the entire first season to catch everyone up to speed with things. HOWEVER 2.0 onwards takes on a different route. Some say this is like the true iteration of the Eva series and how its supposed to "end"

Just got around to watching your reaction, 2 months later. IMO these "Rebuild" movies are much more entertaining than the series proper. I've watched the bluray versions of each Rebuild movie (1.11 2.22 3.33), and they're great. Though I do get the impression that's not a popular opinion amongst Evangelion purists 😂. Definitely looking forward to the final installement 4.0 aka "3.0 + 1.0".
